Long covid - get booster?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has long covid and has had their booster?

I have long covid after testing positive at the end of summer. I still have fatigue and bouts of breathlessness.

I got a text message from my GP with my booster appointment but I wondered is it sensible to get it with long covid? I did try to call and ask GP but could not get through!

I’d love to know the answer to this too. I’ve postponed my booster for now so that it’s over 90 days when I have it but am hoping to speak to GP first too

No one can answer this op, there's not enough data out there. I got covid March 2020 and developed long covid. NHS professional and unable to work for a year and really struggled when back only part time, however, did have AZ vax Feb 2021 and did seem to improve after even though felt dire with side effects for a week. Just had second vax 3 days ago and surprisingly after a day of feeling a little unwell feel better than I have in 18 months........ No idea if related or will last though🤷

I have long covid and I got my booster last week. I had a few days of feeling a bit crappy but back to ‘normal’ now. I also had covid a second time recently so I clearly am not that good at fighting it off so I need all the help I can get.

Annecdotally a friend with very bad long covid has felt better after every jab, booster included. Similar to @mossstitch experience

Starcaller · 16/12/2021 19:56

Yes, a friend of mine with long Covid reported improvements after each jab. There was some tentative research on it at some point I remember reading.

2 family members with long COVID (caught Feb / Mar 2020) both felt a step change improvement after vaccines 1 & 2. Hoping for same again with the booster.

I’d have it . If you’re already suffering from long Covid the last thing you need is a new Covid infection .

I have been diagnosed as having long covid (caught it October 2020) and, as a result, have a life long health condition which requires additional medication daily for life, plus actually makes me even more vulnerable to covid than I was. I was already CV.

I had both vaccines as soon as I was eligible and I've had my booster.

I don't really want to experience covid like that again and will do everything I'm able to do that might lesson that risk.

My consultant and my GP both advised the booster - I was always going to have it anyway.

Thank you all so much for responding! I am very very keen to get the booster asap - just anxious after my experience with covid / long covid.

I experience breathlessness on and off with fatigue and want to be fairly sure I won't make it worse getting boosted!

Hi OP. Retired doctor here with long Covid for 21 months. I noticed a definite improvement after both my Covid immunisations- my exercise limit came up from breathless at 100 yards, to being able to walk a couple of miles.
I had my third dose booster a month ago, and had a further small improvement, though not as marked as the first two.
I gather that about a third to a half of us long Covid patients get an improvement from vaccine doses, while the remainder are unaffected.
You should certainly get your booster regardless, to top up your protection against a repeat Covid infection - any benefit in your long Covid status is a nice bonus, but not guaranteed.

AgathaX · 16/12/2021 23:24

I had an improvement in long covid symptoms after having my first jab, most noticeably that my sense of smell came back after 10 months.

Hairyfriend · 16/12/2021 23:29

I recall either a research article/paper or a medical report about this very thing. It advised that having a vaccine or booster, can sometimes 'shock/shake' the immune system back into working again when someone has long covid and early results were encouraging. People had reduction of their long covid symptoms and vaccines/boosters were being advised. I cant find the link now, but wishing you all the best OP.

Likewise. Covid hit him so hard they thought he had had a stroke. All traces of long Covid disappeared after his second jab.

Thank you everyone who has taken time to reply / share experiences. It is so very reassuring!
