Faint positive LFT? Definitely a line, but very faint ! have had about 5 of these yesterday and today. Has anyone tested positive with PCR after a faint line LFT?

DS (17) had 2 faint positive LFTs in August 2 weeks apart which were both negative by PCR.

He had a stronger positive LFT last Sunday, confirmed negative by PCR later that day. 2 negative LFTs in the week. Now he’s tested positive again this morning. Got a PCR booked for this afternoon. He has zero symptoms.

DD had a very faint positive on their regular Sunday night school tests (so faint we were squinting at it under the lamp). Positive PCR the next day.

Anyone have any experience of an LFT where there is a definite line by the T, but the line is white (surrounding area pinkish, then a thick pink line by the C). Resisting doing any more LFTs to check, but been for a PCR so should have conclusive results anyway, but keen to know if anyone has had this happen and what the outcome was?

Maudmadrigal - I had one like that. It was a white line on a pink background. After a few hours it settled to a very pale grey line on a white background. PCR negative.

If there is any shortage it's not because people are using multiple but because the govt were trying to phase them out until Omicron turned up.

Thanks Watsername - that's reassuring!

I've recently seen estimates that the LFTs cost the government £5-£8 each.

And some people think doing 5 in quick succession is a good idea...

What's betting you won't waste 4 of them when we have to start paying for them - like many countries already do.

I'm not sure whether you're truly comparing the idea that the moon may be made of cheese with the estimated cost of LFTs or whether you're just trying to be funny.

I read it in the FT, by the way, so hardly some nonsense from tiktok or wherever it is you get your humour from.

A line is a line...

And it doesn't matter whether the shortage is due to the production or delivery of tests, it is still a shortage!

Really don't understand why you wouldn't just do a PCR. Or, if you really don't want to, just assume you have a positive PCR...
