Done antibody test I'm positive for lgG negative for lgM

I only had my second jab in October why would I not have antibodys from a vaccine ? Or have I got them the wrong way round ?

Isn't there an instruction leaflet that tells you how to read the results?

justmeandcovid · 16/12/2021 17:46

@SerfNTerf yes I'm confused as to why I have no antibodys from the vaccine but am positive from previous infection

I have a similar antibody test here and it doesn't say anything about testing for vaccine antibodies. What does it actually say each line refers to?

Ok we have the exact same tests! Mine has a bigger leaflet that explains how to interpret the results. I'll take a photo of the relevant bit after I've done the dishes!

@SerfNTerf thank you 😊

IgM is short lived (weeks) where as IgG persist for months.

justmeandcovid · 16/12/2021 18:14

@vickyc90 thanks I'm really struggling to understand if I have antibodys from A previous infection or the vaccine

OP posts:

They are both for antibodies after infection. Not vaccination

Flaxmeadow · 16/12/2021 18:17

...it isn't a test for vaccine antibodies

It's doesn't tell you that unfortunately, it only tell you a yes or no to whether you have antibodies. A IgM would imply you have been vaccinated or been exposed recently. IgG on its own indicate it wasn't within the last few weeks.

Infected people generally have a higher IgM & IgG post infection with a subsequent vaccination than someone post vaccination who has never been exposed.

But that isn't a quantitative test, to be fair the only times I've seen it quanted is in research.

Is it an Anti-N test? I haven't seen an at home anti-N test only the Roche one where you send off a finger prick. Do you have a link in tempter now if its anti-N. None of the vaccine produce an Anti-N so if you are Anti-N IgG positive that would indicate a past infection some weeks ago as you have no IgM.

The fact it's IgG vs IgM only tell you a time.

justmeandcovid · 16/12/2021 18:58

@vickyc90 I got it www.zedmed.co.uk/store/Panodyne-Covid-19-Antibody-Rapid-Test-Kit.html

It doesn't specifically say either way which is naughty but reading it from a science perspective I very much doubt it's Anti-N as they would shout about it if they had managed it. The Roche one is UKAS accredited so is more reliable if you want to know for certain.
