Booster nerves - just need a friendly push!

Double jabbed with Pfizer, had Covid over a month ago, booster is booked in but I feel nervous like I did ahead of the previous two vaccines, I think because I’ve had side effects previously dizzy/foggy head feeling, body aches etc. I know I need to have it but I can’t help feeling nervous. Not helped that I don’t feel 100%, feel a little like a cold is on the way but I think it’s because I’m stressing about it so much…. Two things… can you go for the jab with a cold? And I know no one knows about the side effects but any reassurance from those having had the booster would be much appreciated!

I’m queuing to get mine right now and I know what you mean but I still think it’s going to help in the long run so worth it to me. And I have a newborn so not looking forward to side effects but better than being hospitalised with covid and a newborn! Good luck!

youhadmeatjello · 16/12/2021 15:39

Hello, I'm feeling the same. I got migraines last time which scared me a bit because of the blood clot cases, but I'm so glad I had them both.
I'm booked in for tomorrow, and I'm nervous about it but extremely grateful I've managed to get a slot.

Most people I know have felt a bit tired/achey/ maybe coldy for about 2 days max (those who had side effects, quite a few didn't), and I believe they tell you not to come if you have covid symptoms, but don't mention anything else.
So unless your cold symptoms could also be covid symptoms, you should be ok. Maybe do a lateral flow beforehand for some reassurance?

PlugUgly1980 · 16/12/2021 15:40

Yes you can go with a cold, as long as no temperature. I had terrible nerves and anxiety with the first two...the booster was no different...although I did think, well I've done it twice I can do it again, so was possibly slightly less nervous, although still worried as I knew I'd be getting a different brand. Go, go, go...and be super proud of yourself afterwards for doing it!

Deianira · 16/12/2021 15:42

I had my booster yesterday and while I know it's not the same for everyone, my side effects for this dose have been a lot lighter and quicker to go away than either of my first two doses. And I'm feeling so relieved to have got it done. So try and press through the nerves - you can do it! Smile

Rainydays55 · 16/12/2021 15:43

Thank you so much for your speedy kind replies. I will do a LFT before to make sure it’s just a cold. I’ve heard somewhere that drinking lots of water beforehand helps side effects?!! Is that just nonsense?!

Apart from a sore arm, I didn't have any adverse effects from the booster (had some from 2 prev jabs) so hopefully you'll be ok.

Def worth doing OP.

youhadmeatjello · 16/12/2021 15:51

Drinking lots of water can't hurt anyway, it's good for you - but you might need the loo if you have to queue Grin

Rainydays55 · 16/12/2021 15:57

Lol yes very true @youhadmeatjello !! I know I sound like a complete wimp asking these questions, I’ve just got so nervous before each one!

Feeling quite on edge this evening! It’s so silly I know. I wasn’t nervous like this before my flu jab at all. Is there much difference between the moderna and Pfizer? I know we won’t get a choice , so I guess there’s no point me even asking that question lol

I had a cold and asked, they assured me it was fine. I think lots of us were a bit nervous, it’s just one of those things snd you’ll feel better once done, not long and it’ll be behind you.

Same. I was bricking it, did it anyway, feel 100% better about it all now.

I was very poorly with my first dose AZ, but the Pfizer booster for me was a total breeze. I felt a bit woozy for a minute or two about 8 hours later, had a slight headache, took a paracetamol and got on with my life.

I teach, so have been in an unventilated room with 50 students for the last few days, some with masks, some not. Covid's going round my tutor group so quickly it's astonishing. I'm glad I did what I could to protect myself.

Hope it goes well for you too Xmas Smile

Is it “you had me at jello” or “you had meat jello”?

girafferafferaffe · 16/12/2021 21:03

I had mine this evening and I feel nothing. My arm isn't even really sore !

noodle80 · 16/12/2021 21:46

I had 2 Pfizer followed by a Moderna booster. Felt tired and woozy with first two pfizers but only a slightly sore arm with the booster, no other side effects.

gofg · 16/12/2021 22:10

I've had three Pfizer jabs with no side effects, in fact I don't know anyone who has had side effects other than feeling a bit tired. The point I'm making is that everyone is affected in a different way, but even if you do have side effects they should be short lived.

SockFluffInTheBath · 16/12/2021 22:13

When I had my booster he told me to start paracetamol immediately and keep it up for 2 days to head off the worst of any symptoms. You’ll be ok OP.

Treaclepie19 · 16/12/2021 22:21

You've got this op. I think for those of us who are easily nervous it's a big thing.
Especially with all the anti vax nonsense about.
Remember the scientists have worked hard on this and they want to keep you safe.
I'll be getting mine soon hopefully 🤞

Jayaywhynot · 16/12/2021 22:25

I had my booster last week, no side effects apart from a sore arm, kinda like a dead arm, achy.
I took 2 paracetamol before I went and two before bed and two the next morning, I was fine apart from the sore arm.
I didn't feel great after the first two jabs.

BobstarSunny · 16/12/2021 22:27

I had terrible side effects with the AZ vaccine when I had the first injection. I still went back and had the 2nd, even though I was 7 weeks pregnant at the time. Just had the Pfizer booster on Tuesday and no issues other then a slightly aching arm and I'm now 35 weeks pregnant. You may get some side effects, but I'd rather deal with them then risk being seriously ill and taking up a hospital bed. The chances of serious life threatening illness from the injections are so low that it's not even worth giving it a second though. You'll be fine and try not to spend time worrying about something that'll never happen.

Cherrydown · 16/12/2021 22:30

Drink water and take two paracetamol, who know if it works or not, but might help you feel prepared.

I was ill after my first two and had Covid in October, I was absolutely dreading the booster but all I had was a mild headache the next day and a sore arm for 48 hours.

Turtletaub · 16/12/2021 22:40

I had two Pfizer then moderna booster which really threw me. The booster was the best of the 3 in terms of side effects in the end, felt a little bit rubbish for a couple of hours the next day but then nothing :)

Rainydays55 · 17/12/2021 11:35

I’ve had the Pfizer this morning, glad I’ve had it but now dreading the side effects lol! My first two were Pfizer too and I had some reactions to them both so will just have to see 🤞

No side effects whatsoever from the booster. Arm most sore out of the 3 though. Small inconvenience.
