I’m travelling to see family in Northern Europe.

Does anyone know if I can take le shuttle and drive through France if I don’t get out of the car?

Can’t find a straight answer anywhere.

Can you go via ferry through Belgium? Not having a clue about any Belgian rules....

@brogueish

Yes, if that list is from an official source, you can certainly travel under the provisions in the second bullet.
But only if connected to one of those listed jobs?

It’s a translation of the official source. I speak french so I know it is accurate.

I only found the list after I started the thread.

Thank you Smile

It's another knock on from us leaving Europe isn't it? Who would have guessed there'd be a Europeon Covid Pass and we'd basically be excluded from travelling at times like this.

This is what the most recent French update says for point 2 : Ressortissant de l’Union européenne ou assimilé, ainsi que son conjoint (marié, pacsé et concubin) et ses enfants, ayant sa résidence principale en France ou qui rejoint, en transit par la France, sa résidence principale dans un pays de l’Union Européenne ou assimilé.

EU citizens and partners/spouses and DC can travel to their main residence in France, or transit to their main residence in Europe, or their country of nationality.

We should be absolutely fine. I have done all the paperwork. Just worried about a rogue border official.

We are literally going to be in France for 45 minutes Confused

Agree you should be fine, just pointing out that the french text doesn’t say you can travel to your country of nationality, unless it’s your primary residence.

This is the translation on our English paperwork.

Obviously not... UK citizens who are simply going to (or through) France for tourism purposes can't travel.

You are likely to need to get out of your car at some point (to get more petrol, eat or pee...) and you will be in contact with other people so no they won't let you through simply because France is not your final destination.

Also in this case everyone could just say 'I will stay in my car...'' there is no possibility for the authorities to check so of course they won't allow this.

Try to go through the Netherlands instead.

ElectraBlue · 17/12/2021 14:52

Also 'transit' is not taking off in a car. They mean airport flights...You could fly to Paris if you have a connecting flight to Brussels for example. Your principal residence does not seem to be in an EU country either...

AnguaResurgam · 17/12/2021 14:58

Does the English translation have equal legal status with the French original? Meaning, when they do not say the same thing (like that bit) which will be held by the French to be the definitive version ?

Chatterboxy · 17/12/2021 14:59

Yes, you can.

FingonTheValiant · 17/12/2021 15:02

You still have to meet the transit requirement, which is being an EU citizen returning to your principal residence.

tara66 · 17/12/2021 15:18

Yes - if you also have all the health documents required - because DH is French national.

Suprima · 18/12/2021 10:29

Just in case anyone is interested- we’re currently in France and heading for the border to continue our onward journey. We did our documents and uploaded them to the Eurotunnel portal.

Had no issues at Eurotunnel check in but people around were being questioned- but then being told the decision lies with French border control. French border control took both our passports, asked us where we were going (another country pretty far away) and waved us through with a smile.

Panic over! And despite some posters being adamant we would need get out the car for a wee- I can see the Belgium border in the distance and haven’t opened the door once!
