Pantomime: are you cancelling?

Whatafustercluck · 16/12/2021 14:29

We're booked to go to the pantomime this Sunday. Last time we went we all had a fantastic time so we're really looking forward to it this year. But now I'm starting to wonder if we should cancel. Dh and I are both boostered (me as of Saturday) but dc are 5 and 11 so they're obviously not.

If you've got a pantomime booked, do you still intend to go?

Yes cancelled one for Sunday and for Thursday. Not worth it.

NeverSurrender · 16/12/2021 14:36

We're going this Sunday too. We usually go between Xmas and new year, but I've booked a bit earlier this year just in case it gets cancelled. You usually have to book tickets quickly otherwise they sell out, but this year there's plenty of tickets left, right up until Christmas. The towns other panto hasn't run this year due to COVID uncertainty so I would expect it to be busier. It looks like a lot of people aren't going this year.

NeverSurrender · 16/12/2021 14:40

Should say we are still going , all being well. My dc have missed out on so much , and I think things might be limited again next year so we've decided to carry on as normal until we can't! We'll wear masks and keep our fingers crossed we don't catch anything and we can still see family at Christmas.

Scbchl · 16/12/2021 14:40

Yes, I hadnt even considered not going.

WildStallyn · 16/12/2021 14:41

We're cancelling. We're meant to be travelling to stay with a vulnerable relative the next day though. If it wasn't for that I think we'd go.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/12/2021 14:41

Yes, on Christmas eve.

tootyfruitypickle · 16/12/2021 14:42

More people that cancel the less risk to us. I'll do daily LF after. Not that fussed if I have to see family a bit later in hols

kittenkipper · 16/12/2021 14:45

Yep booked for Christmas Eve and fully Intend to go. The only thing that would stop me is symptoms, positive lf or god forbid it gets cancelled. I'm also seeing family regardless of rules or laws or whatever unless I have symptoms or positive lf. Last year we isolated in advance to see family only to be told in the eleventh hour we needn't have bothered as we weren't allowed to go anyway. Fuck that

Cuppaand2biscuits · 16/12/2021 14:46

We're going on Saturday, kids are in school until 3.30 tomorrow so what's an extra day of mixing?
We've all had it here within the last 6 months so hoping we've got enough antibodies to see us through Christmas.

IShouldProbablyHooverMore · 16/12/2021 14:49

We're going this weekend and are not cancelling. We've all just had covid, and don't live near family - although we'd go anyway.

PotteringAlong · 16/12/2021 14:50

Yup: we’re going January 2nd and will still go

Quartz2208 · 16/12/2021 14:52

It depends - are you going because you want to protect other Christmas plans that are more important and you dont want to be isolating over or have vulnerable family members/vulnerable yourself. In which case yes.

Or are you just trying to avoid it overall - in which case go. This is now I think very much WHEN not IF.

KilmordenCastle · 16/12/2021 14:55

@Scbchl

Yes, I hadnt even considered not going.
Same here. We're going next week.
mistermagpie · 16/12/2021 15:02

We're going on Sunday. So far we haven't changed our plans and I don't think we will unless the government makes us.

We don't have big Christmas plans though and can live with staying at home.

beentoldcomputersaysno · 16/12/2021 15:03

In two minds. There's one with the school. Decided to go as if most of school going, kids will catch it in school anyway. Would have cancelled if a non school trip. Stopping other mixing when school closes in hope don't catch and spread to vulnerable family members at Christmas.

stingofthebutterfly · 16/12/2021 15:26

Yep, going next week. Don't like the thought of having to sit there with a mask on for hours though.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/12/2021 15:28

Hell yes! Saturday can’t wait !

LaMariposa · 16/12/2021 15:31

Going tonight to a local am dram panto. I’m kind of hoping lots of other people cancel as I don’t want Covid but I do think it’s inevitable.
We’ve got quite a few plans over the holidays but this is the only one we’ve paid for.

Bitesize123 · 16/12/2021 15:31

I'm in the process of changing the date from 22nd to in between Christmas and new year, after we've visited family. That way, the risk is just on us, and we're not bothered about isolating after Christmas, just want to avoid taking it to my parents or isolating over Christmas (although with 2 DCs at primary school until tomorrow, the isolating is a distinct possibility!).

Staffy1 · 16/12/2021 15:34

Probably going to cancel. I’m surprised to see from the booking site that it’s mainly still booked up, I thought there would be lots of cancellations, but I suppose if I was younger with young healthy children, or we had all had covid already it might be a different story.

SkankingMopoke · 16/12/2021 15:35

We are booked for the 24th. We will be out of isolation on the 23rd, so yes, we will definitely be going!

KristinAmandaThomas · 16/12/2021 15:38

We’re supposed to be going on the 30th. I’m worried it’ll be cancelled or restrictions will be imposed meaning we can’t go. If we’re able to go out plan is still to do so because it’s part of a trip and involves a couple of nights in a hotel and seeing a family member for his birthday party as well. I’m looking forward to it more than actual Christmas, would hate to miss out. And I feel despair for the poor entertainment and hospitality industries who are losing out so much right now

Vanillaradio · 16/12/2021 15:44

We're going to the pantomine on 3rd January (if such things are still allowed by then....)We're also going away this weekend staying in a hotel and doing 2 Christmas events (one of which ds has been asking to do for 2 years now!) So long as no-one develops symptoms or tests positive before that and the events go ahead we will be there. Dh and I have had vaccines x3, all of us have had covid already and we want to do these things whilst we can in case of further restrictions coming in.

weebarra · 16/12/2021 15:45

Yes, we're going tomorrow with the DCs and my parents. I've told DF and DM not to feel under pressure to go but they're still planning to. Us adults are all boosted and DS1 is double jabbed.

Whatafustercluck · 16/12/2021 16:37

I'm leaning towards going. The only adult who isn't boosted who we're planning to see over Christmas is my sister. But she's chosen not to have the booster and I don't see why I should worry if she isn't!
