Can I take my newborn to booster jab appointment?

The only place I could get an appointment is half an hour bus ride away, she’s a week old and feeds regularly and I don’t currently have a working breast pump or know if she will take a bottle. Will I be allowed to take her to the vax appointment? Not sure what to do otherwise.

Can’t see why not, there were two sets of parents with pushchairs when I had my booster today.

I took mine to second appointment, no one said anything other than to chat about the baby. Don’t think it will be an issue based on my experience. Good luck!

@BlessedBeTheFruitCake @barefootNpregnant thank you!

There were several parents with babies/pre schoolers in the centre when I had my booster a few weeks ago. All fine.

I think they are just happy to get jabs in arms right now!

SparrowNest · 16/12/2021 12:29

@Shallwegoforawalk thanks!

Yes. I got my booster at Guy's in London and there were a number of parents their with kids, babies in slings etc. No issues at all.

@TooManyPlatesInMotion thank you!

Personally, I wouldn't take a week old baby to any large gathering, even pre-covid. She won't have had ANY vaccinations yet.

I took my three and four year olds to my second dose in the summer. It was either that or not get one because my husband was working too many hours to have them.
It worked out really well. They were well behaved and they got to see me have an injection and how painless and not a big deal they are.

I went for mine today and there was a woman with a double buggy in front of me. The consultation rooms are all on the ground floor which obviously helps people with buggies.

ColettesEarrings · 16/12/2021 13:02

I must admit I wouldn't want to take a week old baby to a large centre, possibly having to stand for an hour or two having not long given birth, possibly having to feed standing up. Is there anyone who can come with you? Can you keep checking daily for nearer appts? Ring your closest place, explain circumstances and ask to go in first thing?

Nightmanagerfan · 16/12/2021 13:03

I’m going for mine this afternoon and have no choice but to take my two year old and ten week old with me. I haven’t asked but assume it’s ok! I expect they won’t be turning anyone away/

I took DD(2) with me to mine and she was the darling of the place Grin all the staff came over to talk to her and she showed them all her sticker book we'd taken to keep her entertained.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 16/12/2021 13:06

Yes it's fine.
When I was stewarding someone even brought their dog with them! That I drew the line at.

SomethingBeginningWithX · 16/12/2021 13:07

I took my 9 week old yesterday and it was great, like being with a celebrity Grin they all made a fuss over her which was nice, even when she puked up her last feed.

Mine was super efficient and fast. Looked like a long queue when I got there but I was in and out in minutes. Hopefully the same for you.

2020nymph · 16/12/2021 13:07

Just had my booster and there were parents with toddlers and babies. In arms and in prams. A couple of volunteers talked to the children but otherwise nothing was said. Smile

lifestoooshort · 16/12/2021 13:09

Yes I took my 2 and 1 year old - no problems - good luck :)

SW1amp · 16/12/2021 13:09

My 3 year old has been to 2 of my 3 appointments and it was fine. He got given lots of stickers..!

But also check if the hospital you gave birth in is doing any walk in clinics in the maternity unit. Mine is, and will allow women a few weeks post partum to attend also
Might be less crowded than an free for all clinic

TyrannosaurusRegina · 16/12/2021 13:39

I'm a nurse and work in a vaccination centre. It's no problem at all to bring the kids along (unless your centre is advising otherwise). Some people wouldn't be able to attend if they weren't allowed to bring babies/children along.
