Covid on top of a chest infection…

I’ve had a chest infection for a week (negative pcr and lateral flows) the after weeks of continual colds. GP on the phone last week said likely viral and no antibiotics needed so have been riding it out. It’s been quite nasty and I have asthma and am very wheezy.
I’m still not over it and have been coughing up phlegm (sorry, TMI).
I have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive. I’ve gone for a PCR and am awaiting results.
I am now really scared if I have covid on top of a nasty chest infection what it could do to me. Has anyone else had a situation like this??

No but I am asthmatic and when I had covid I was very wheezy and the doctors were very concerned. GPs have always been very good when it comes to my asthma. Have you had a chest X-ray, that could show a chest infection that requires antibiotics?

@IpanemaPeaHen sorry to hear you were wheezy with it it’s so horrible isn’t it.
No , I’ve not even seen a doctor just a 2 minute conversation last week who said that post cold and snotty so sounded viral.
I rang gp again today as my symptoms are bad but they said await pcr results. I’m frightened I could end up with 2 virus simultaneously attacking my chest Shock. Good news my oxygen sats are 99%.

My little one has a severe chest infection that the doctors are struggling to treat ( she's antibiotic resistant) and they have advised us to isolate incase she needs admission to hospital and to prevent catching covid that could really cause problems on top of the infection.

@santabetterwashhishands I’m so sorry to hear that, I know that antibiotic resistance is something to worry about in the near future but I did not know that some people were already resistant to them. I hope your little one makes a speedy and full recovery.
That’s worrying their thoughts about their concerns not catching covid on top of a chest infection.. I’ll await my pcr results and contact my gp again. Thank you.

My lungs are still inflamed from last years infection but my sats were always good, sound like yours are too. Try not to worry I know it’s hard not to Brew Flowers and try and speak to a gp tomorrow.

I'm in a similar situation OP. Also asthmatic, and caught a cold from DD three weeks ago and it developed into a mild chest infection after a week / ten days. I actually saw a GP yesterday who prescribed antibiotics because I should be having surgery next week and they won't operate if I have a chest infection.

Today my cough/chest changed very suddenly from standard sticky chest infection feel and I now feel as though I have a small fire smouldering in my lungs. Convinced it's Covid (DD also has a temperature now) and awaiting PCR results. A bit nervous it has to be said.

Also asthmatic here and prone to chest infections, I never have a doctor decide I don’t need antibiotics and/or steroid tablets without seen me, it’s a big gamble, my usual gp has given me antibiotics without seeing me, cos it’s what she normally gives me
I did get covid 3 weeks ago and I am still recovering, no antibiotics for this yet, but they were considered
