How long until you tested negative?

My partner and I travelled home to England from Ireland for the weekend, and for our antigen test to get back into Ireland on Sunday my partner tested positive on the antigen test to get back into Ireland so we’ve had to stay.

We’re isolating now for 10 days but I heard that you can test positive for weeks/months after?

I know this differs for most people but how long did it take you to test negative again on an antigen?

I tested negative on day 7 of isolation. Then started to feel worse but still negative.

CandyCane17 · 15/12/2021 23:39

Negative lft after 6 days. Wouldn’t rush to get a PCR unless absolutely necessary as I feel they’re more likely to pick up a past infection.

ParkheadParadise · 15/12/2021 23:40

You can't take a pcr test for 90 days after having covid.

Day 9

If you’re positive on an antigen test you’re supposed to have a PCR test. You’re not supposed to test for 3 months after a positive PCR because bits of virus particles can remain in your body and give false positives.
Once you’ve had an active infection your considered immune for 3 months.

Day 5 or 6. X

@ParkheadParadise & @Whattochoosenow I’ve been told by 119 I may need to PCR when I come back from France next month due to Omicron. Seriously thinking of cancelling in case it comes back positive.

@CandyCane17
My sister tested positive for covid in October. She works in a school last month someone in her work tested positive so everyone had to get a PCR. When she went to get it they didn't give her one. Told her to go back to work as it would probably be positive still for 90 days after a positive test as long as she doesn't have symptoms.

I thought you weren't meant to try and test negative, people aren't doing that routinely are they?

Everything I've read says that results can't be guarenteed within 90 days of a postive result. Not that you won't test negative at some time but that a postive test doesn't mean you are are still infectious

Treetops09 · 16/12/2021 10:29

I think you're best getting advice from the authorities in Ireland eg their equivalent of 119

GoodTid · 16/12/2021 10:46

Around the beginning of Covid (so somethings went known) someone in my team tested positive for 2.5 months and couldn't come into work.

InCahootswithOrwell · 16/12/2021 10:52

If he’s got a mild case he’ll more likely than not test negative within 10 days. You can test positive for up to 90 days but it’s unlikely. Your best bet is to see what the Irish authorities will accept as proof of previous infection. He might not actually need another test.

I’d be more worried about him passing it on to one of the rest of the group travelling meaning that by the time you leave someone else will test positive.
