Shall we delay Christmas until Jan 6?

As it stands December 25 will be in the middle of a massive but really fast covid wave caused by omicron which is likely to overwhelm our hospitals, at least temporarily. If you infect your nan then they will have a huge amount of problem getting care . Shall we all just agree to spend Christmas with our immediate family and then have an extended family Christmas on January 6 instead?

That's the big day for celebrating in Spain i think.
If it suits you then definitely go for it.

That's the "Old New Year," isn't it?

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 15/12/2021 18:41

I really don't think it would make a significant difference.

@User9529057

Are people on here about 10 who have these nans, I know I'm probably a bit older but mine died in the mid 80s
I am 30, I have all my grandparents and a great nan. Many people have kids in their early 20s, so it's not uncommon. Incidentally She is looking forward to seeing everyone at Christmas

My kids will be at school and my husband at work on the 6th so no thanks.

I saw this suggestion. I suppose if your nan isn't already going to bingo and hopping on and off the bus it could make sense.

IrisPurple · 15/12/2021 20:28

Nope - we’ll all be working.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 15/12/2021 20:44

i'd rather skip christmas completely than attempt to persuade everyone its moving to bleeding JANUARY!!!

No, because we will all be back at work.

We were meant to spend last Christmas with my Nan and missed it because of the restrictions. It turns out it was her last one. Sad She died in August aged 90, non Covid related.

That would take the shine off my 50th birthday on the 8th so no thanks!

You do you and I'll do me.

Last year I had two teenagers at school and unvaccinated grandparents in their '80s. We decided to not mix in Christmas Day, even though it was allowed. Since the. The grandparents health has declined. The highlight of their year is having a meal with us at Christmas. This year we are all vaccinated, and I have seen a decline in the grandparents health. This year we will be celebrating together. Because it might not be possible next Christmas.last year we absolutely made the right decision. And were all alive this Christmas. But as grownups, I, DH, my Parents and DHs parents have all decided unless anyone tests positive we will be going ahead with our Christmas celebrations on the 25th and 26th December. We will then be having grandparents birthday celebrations in the new year. Low key, but not alone, like last year.
