Just tested positive and worried about family catching it from today onwards. I'm wondering if anyone won't be affected this Christmas.

Christmas Day will still happen. It might not be as you’d planned. Is it worth coming up with some back up options in case you have to stay home with your own household?

Hope everyone avoids it Flowers

Angel2702 · 15/12/2021 14:04

No yesterday was. D you test positive today you won’t end isolation until midnight on Christmas Day as today would be day zero and it is ten full days after that. Unless you had symptoms before that.

randomsabreuse · 15/12/2021 14:09

We have no plans to go anywhere for Christmas but will be stuffed getting any food until 27th December if DH or DD test positive today as we don't like online shopping so haven't got a slot. We're ok for vegetables now so getting a slot now won't help, they don't last well (especially online shopping!)

Yes, I’ve seen articles on this today including this one metro.co.uk/2021/12/15/more-than-1000000-set-to-spend-christmas-day-in-self-isolation-15775209/

It’s 10 full days after the positive test unless you reported symptoms starting earlier. Test and trace will confirm when you can come out of isolation.

I hope your family don’t catch it.

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 14:13

It’s the day the test was done, not when it was reported.

Florin · 15/12/2021 14:18

We tested positive on Monday and track and trace have said this morning we are not to leave the house until the 24th so if positive today you can’t mix/go out on Christmas Day. 2 out of 3 of us positive, if dh doesn’t test positive we will have his Mum in for Christmas Day but if he does then obviously we will have to isolate. We are so sad as all our pre Christmas plans have had to be cancelled, I can’t see my parents for Christmas or DH’s Dad as planned and our ds has missed out on his main Christmas present from my parents as it was an activity meant to take place this week. Covid sucks, we are feel a bit ropey but it also could be a lot worse.

Claudethecat · 15/12/2021 14:18

Is anyone restricting what they do now to avoid getting ill for Christmas?

I am triple jabbed so I know I have some protection against getting it or being seriously ill, but I still don't want to be ill over Christmas. It would be the shitty icing on the cake of 2021 (plus DH is CV, but also triple jabbed).

Surely isolation is from when symptoms started?

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 14:30

@1990s

Surely isolation is from when symptoms started?
It depends on if you get symptoms or not. Asymptomatic positive: from day after test. Unfortunately, if you later develop symptoms, the ten days restarts from day after symptoms.

You’re right that it starts from the day after the symptoms if you get them.

I am, as much as I can in a public-facing job anyway. I have a CEV person in my household too and will be seeing a lot of people over Christmas.

When my DS had asymptomatic positive PCR we isolated ten days from the test. He lost his sense of smell and taste a week later, are you saying he should have isolated for a further 10 days from that point?? That is not the advice we were given by the people who phoned us to tell us what to do.

LadyIckenham · 15/12/2021 14:35

Just ordered a last minute turkey, DD1 tested positive yesterday.

Have yet to break it to my parents Sad

The nhs says this: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/how-long-to-self-isolate/
So today is the last day to test positive and still have a Christmas day ...
toomuchlaundry · 15/12/2021 14:36

Isn't it whichever comes first symptoms or positive test?

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 14:36

@toomuchlaundry

Isn't it whichever comes first symptoms or positive test?
No, look at the link to the nhs guidance on this I’ve just posted.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/12/2021 14:37

I'll still have Christmas day, I'm not seeing wider family anyway so it makes no difference.

AD80 · 15/12/2021 14:38

Dd is the same. 3 out of 4 us have covid and 1 of us nearly over it (Dp finishes isolating tomorrow!). Dd tested positive on lft yesterday! Awaiting pcr results! Me and Ds are isolating until early next week.

Thankfully the 3 of us with confirmed covid have had mild symptoms and so far Dd has no symptoms!

Though, technically day of test or day of symptoms starting (depending on if you have symptoms or not) is day zero. So day 1 is the next full day. So technically it can be 11 days 🤦‍♀️ For instance someone who starts to
Get symptoms today and tests positive will come out of isolation on the 26th.

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 14:38

Argh, pressed post.

It’s not automatically which is first, symptoms or test.

If you have symptoms and test positive, it’s the symptoms date that counts.

If you test positive and stay asymptomatic, it’s the test date that counts.

If you test positive with no symptoms but later develop them, it’s the date you got symptoms that matters.

toomuchlaundry · 15/12/2021 14:41

We cross posted @PurpleDaisies, I was too slow typing!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 15/12/2021 14:46

@purpledaisies so in the case of my DS he was fine for the 10 original days.

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 14:49
@purpledaisies so in the case of my DS he was fine for the 10 original days.
I don’t think so-reading what the nhs says it looks like he developed a key symptoms of covid and should have counted that as day zero and isolated for ten days after that.

Test and trace might have made a mistake. You followed what they told you in good faith though.

fairynick · 15/12/2021 14:50

I tested positive this morning after waking up feeling like shit😢
Two positive lateral flows and a pcr booked for this evening.
I will be spending Christmas Day in my bedroom as I do not want to infect the people I live with, and will probably order ubereats.

sociallydistained · 15/12/2021 14:53

I live alone but have a partner and we’re going to my family Christmas Day. It may be awful but I’m such an introvert I wouldn’t mind having to isolate from them all Christmas Day 😬 it would be a bit depressing I expect and I obviously don’t want to be ill over Christmas (I had swine flu one year… awful!!) so I’m not hoping for it but I def wouldn’t be as devastated as many others!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 15/12/2021 14:53

There is no way I would have kept him isolating for a further ten days, I can't imagine anyone thinking that was reasonable. It was quite common to develop different symptoms through the isolation period.
