From @bbclaurak...

"Govt source expects Cobra meeting this afternoon with the devolved administrations - Scottish, Welsh and NI govts"

I feel more restrictions are heading our way…

They need a focused strategy. The longer this goes on, the more I think that in times of crisis we need a crisis government. Instead we have the usual rabble shouting at each other and trying to score points.

If we don't find a way to find common cause and structurally address the pandemic (and all it's seen and yet unseen consequences) this agony will never end.

If, as seems possible, the next variant is even milder but even more transmissible, we need to discuss the nature of enforced isolation.

It's too early to call yet, but it may be that with omicron, the admin will hurt more than the illness.

Delatron · 15/12/2021 11:55

I agree @MorrisZapp

We need to start thinking more long term than these constant knee jerk reactions. What is our long term plan here?

I know it’s not a mild illness for many but I currently have Covid and I’ve had worse colds.

I completely understand that everyone getting it at once would not be a good idea. But it may happen, by consequence that if enough of us get Omicron this will help build immunity so the next variant (and there will be one) will be less disruptive. Throw in three vaccinations for many and immunity will really build.

I firmly believe locking us all down and artificially suppressing this wave is not a good idea. Keep boosting and allow it to circulate.

I know that’s controversial but we cannot get stuck in this endless cycle of restrictions forever.

Hairwizard · 15/12/2021 12:14

They can have all the cobra meetings they want. I dont give a flying fuck. Business as usual for us.
Shower of cunts every last hoorin bastard one of them.

ParkheadParadise · 15/12/2021 12:19

I'm watching Bawbag Boris on the TV just now.
I'm never seen such stupid shite in all my life. Grown-up men shouting and screaming at each other.
The UK is a laughing stock and a fucking joke.

Hi all - we're afraid that we don't believe the OP is genuine. We've removed their threads and posts.

secretllama · 15/12/2021 12:23

Agree @Delatron and thankfully I see more and more people are the same

heldinadream · 15/12/2021 12:28

Had Brexit not already exposed how lamentable our politics is, covid would have successfully taken up the task.
The quiet sensible worker bees of politics get so little attention - I'm thinking Yvette Cooper as a for instance - whereas the blaring raging shouting narcissists are in charge. What to do about it though?

Delatron · 15/12/2021 12:29

@secretllama yes I do think slowly people are beginning to realise we can’t go on like this forever.

EvilPea · 15/12/2021 12:31

I agree completely. Even brexit should have been bigger than whichever political party happened to be in power at the time.

Delatron · 15/12/2021 12:31

Otherwise your option is locking down every winter (or harsh restrictions) to protect the NHS.

Are we all to make life long sacrifices to protect the NHS or do we think we need to do something to change the healthcare system so it can cope? No it’s not a quick fix but at least start planning now. We’re two years in to this. We need a new plan!

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2021 12:33

They need to start working together as if it's a war footing : instead it's just in fighting and point scoring and just shit to be honest !

DynamiteFilledRadish · 15/12/2021 12:41

Agree with you Delatron

Agree. The government have had almost 2 years to sort a plan to protect the NHS. Continuing to use lockdown to solve the issue is just putting off the inevitable and making it a lot worse too.
ILookAtTheFloor · 15/12/2021 12:42

Also agree with Delatron.

Great post.

This reporter thinks there will be a press conference tonight: twitter.com/tnewtondunn/status/1471061517688881152

Overthebow · 15/12/2021 12:52

I agree with @Delatron. We can’t keep using lockdown and similar measures. It needs to be allowed to circulate now and we get on with our lives.

HSHorror · 15/12/2021 12:53

I disagree delatron in that as yet we havent tried vaccinating 0-11. That would slow spread to more manageable levels.

MarshaBradyo · 15/12/2021 12:54

I just the Harries quote about ‘NHS in peril’

There are many other things too at same stage

Delatron · 15/12/2021 12:58

@HSHorror I think it will be quite a while before the Joint Vaccine Committee approve the vaccinations for that age group. They are quite rightly focusing on those most vulnerable to Covid and working their way down.

Plus, I don’t think many will be rushing out to get their babies and toddler vaccinated to ‘slow the spread’. I could be wrong.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 15/12/2021 12:59

@Overthebow

I agree with *@Delatron*. We can’t keep using lockdown and similar measures. It needs to be allowed to circulate now and we get on with our lives.
And if living with it means full hospitals and delays to non-covid treatment, is that ok ?
gogohm · 15/12/2021 13:01

They will be looking at the evidence coming out of South Africa and other countries, the chief medical officers' recommendations and trying to find a proportionate response that the populations will accept. I strongly expect vaccinations for 5-11 year olds is on the agenda

MySaladDaysAreGone · 15/12/2021 13:01

Or maybe we suck it up and pay more tax for a fit for purpose health service?
