Strange symptoms - noise sensitivity

Hi everyone. I've recently had covid and I'm just out of my isolation period. The last few days I've been feeling a bit light-headed and sinusy with occasional ear-pain so have assumed I'm fighting off a slight sinus infection which is not unusual for me after a cold. However this evening I'm noticing a weird sensitivity to noise. Every step the children take on the stairs sounds like a huge thud. Hubby was wrapping a couple of presents and the sound of the sellotape being unpeeled from the roll was almost unbearable. It's like someone has turned up the volume control in my ears. Has anyone else had this? It's quite scary tbh and not sure how I'm going to function going back to work in a very noisy primary school classroom on Thursday! Hopefully someone can confirm that this is a symptom and I'm not going mad!

I found having Covid heightened everything. It was like my whole body was on red alert. It seems it attacks your nervous system and you go into a type of fight or flight. Any area of sensitivity becomes worse. Hopefully this will pass. To be honest, l am a primary teacher and there is no way l could have gone back into a classroom that soon after coming out of isolation. You need more rest.
And my sinuses were horrible. Never in my life had sinus problems but it was hell for a few days alongside ongoing fatigue. Make sure you do not overdo it as you could set yourself back
I would stay out until after Christmas

Try taking magnesium, or having epsom salt baths.

Covid can effect the ear system. Tinitus, vertigo, sudden hearing loss have all been reported post covid. I would speak to GP tomorrow, you may need steriods to calm the inner ear.

Thanks for the comments everyone. If I'm not feeling more normal by the morning I'll give the GP a call. It's reassuring to know that it's not a completely unheard of symptom! That sounds very similar to how I feel Junebirthdaygirl. How long did it last for you? I was really hoping to make it back before the Xmas holidays. The class have had a lot of different cover due to covid knocking out a fair few staff and I wanted to give them a more normal couple of days!

I've had this since having covid and it's not really got any better. Went to Drs and got ear and nose spray from the nurse.
It's weird and driving me mad.
Hoping it will eventually just go

It’s called hyperacusis. I’ve come across people who’ve had it as a side effect in conjunction with tinnitus. Hopefully it will go for you pretty quickly

Yes I have this- it took me a good three weeks to recover from the tiredness. Now the ear sensitivity and random chest pains are the lingering symptoms

Bookworm23 · 14/12/2021 22:41

Thank you JS87. I'm not going to madly google that in my current muddled state but useful to have a name for it. Sorry to hear that Scotlass. Hope it eases for you soon. It's not pleasant!

Hate to say this but at 8 weeks l was just beginning to ome back to normal but most people l know were much better earlier. Everyone seems to react differently.
