Worried about booster side effects

Wednesdayafternoon · 14/12/2021 20:30

I seem to be developing a bit of anxiety around side effects on vaccines. I've had my flu jab every year and always felt awful after it for a day or so but never not had it... up until this year.
I have had both Covid vaccines and been ok but all I seem to hear is everyone going on and on about side effects of the booster and now I'm say here stressing About feeding unwell after my booster tomorrow!
Can anyone actually reassure eve that I might be ok after my booster because literally all I've heard is everyone going on and on and ON about being unwell after it :(

Didn't even notice I had had it! Even my arm wasn't really sore to the point I got in to bed, rolled on it and went 'ouch-why does my arm hurt?' And DH reminded me I had it done in the morning. Even then it wasn't really painful it just surprised me as I had forgot 🤷‍♀️

gogohm · 14/12/2021 22:06

I had no side effects at all neither did dp - moderna

nordica · 14/12/2021 22:07

Remember you are more likely to hear from people who have side-effects than those who don't, because no one usually reports a non-event on social media or MN.

I kind of understand your anxiety though and have chosen my appointment time so that I can have a duvet day the next day if I need it (this Friday). I had flu like symptoms after my first and second vaccines but tbh as I knew they were side effects, and had a chance to have a relaxed day at home, it wasn't such a big deal - even though it felt like being ill, I knew it's just the vaccine and I'd be fine soon - and I was, both times they lasted for about 36 hours.

@SerenTarot wow you're fun.
So the point of this post was to just have a chat and out my mind at ease. It really wasn't to have a conversation about what worry and anxiety are. And I disagree. I don't think you choose what you worry about at all, I think that's a really careless comment coming from someone who doesn't know me in the slightest. You may feel like this, but it doesn't mean everyone else does so please don't feel you need to speak for me.

@nordica yes you're absolutely right and that does put it into perspective a lot more :)

Thank you for the replies all! ♥️

I agree with @nordica’s suggestion. DH, DD and I we all chose our boosters for the days when we had nothing important next day, DD had a club which she could miss and DH had an optional event. I think knowing this lessened our worries significantly.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 14/12/2021 22:16

Was very poorly with AZ first two. Had booster today Pfizer and 12 hours on just a sore arm. Had a headache about 3 hours after but it went about 2 hours ago.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 14/12/2021 22:26

Got mine at a walk in appt yesterday evening, along with about 8 of my colleagues.

All of us back in work today. Some have a sore arm (inc me) but that's about it.

ItWasntMyFault · 14/12/2021 22:30

I had mine this morning and apart from feeling slightly tired, I'm totally fine.

thetinsoldier · 14/12/2021 22:31

Dh and I were absolutely fine after our booster - a sore arm was our only side effect. I think Mumsnet attracts people who have had terrible reactions, and this skews the figures... you will be fine!

DramaAlpaca · 14/12/2021 22:32

I had a few side effects after both my Moderna jabs, but only a sore arm after my Pfizer booster.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 14/12/2021 22:46

@Wednesdayafternoon

I had AZ first two, made sure I had paracetamol, flu remedies, etc etc 'prepared' for it! I felt totally fine both times.

Pfizer for my booster, totally didn't even think about prepping... thankfully totally fine too!!

Not even a sore arm!

All friends family etc also totally fine after booster

Best of luck!!

I'm not speaking for you, I'm speaking for myself and no, I don't know you in the slightest in real life, but what I do know from this thread
is that you are working yourself up over an injection that takes seconds, that millions have had, that everyone on this thread has reassured you is fine and you are taking it, and yourself far too seriously.

Of all the terrible things that can happen to us as humans, an injection designed to protect you is hardly a reason to work yourself up in to a frenzy of anxiety.

Just relax, get the jab, you'll cope with the side effects (or no side effects) and the sky won't fall in.

And on that note I'm away from this thread. Good luck!

Just had my booster yesterday and have a slightly sore arm (wouldn't notice if I weren't looking out for it) and felt very slightly flu-ey for a few hours (again, barely noticeable, just like a cold starting). Fine now.

MsAmerica · 14/12/2021 23:15

How odd. I don't know why anyone would stress out about a third shot if the first two were fine.

I had my booster, and my arm was mildly sore for a half day. That's it.

PlanetNormal · 14/12/2021 23:21

I have had four vaccines this year :

1, AZ Covid first vaccine. Slightly sore arm.
2, AZ second dose. Nothing.
3, Flu vaccine. Felt slightly under the weather for 48 hours.
4, Pfizer Covid booster. Slightly sore arm. Felt slightly under the weather for 24 hours.

DP had the same, except his covid booster was Moderna. He vomited during the night after his first AZ dose, and had a sore arm & felt a bit rough for 48 hours after his booster, but he went to work as normal.

whichusernamethough · 15/12/2021 22:11

@MsAmerica why do you need to describe someone's anxiety as odd? Kindness is free

whichusernamethough · 15/12/2021 22:15

@SerenTarot what an obnoxious, unkind post. You can see from the original post that the person is anxious about it. Talk about judgmental. What makes you think it's appropriate to come on here and speak to people unkindly? Goodness me.

Suffolkcatlady · 15/12/2021 22:20

I totally understand your concern. I've spent the last two weeks booking and then cancelling my booster. Every single day!!! Terrified of side effects and stuff I read on anti vax sites (as I do like to read both pro and anti vax stuff) But finally today I went and had the pfizer booster at 11am and happy to report no side effects at all yet! After all my worrying I feel a sense of relief now that I got it.

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 22:22

I had my Pfizer booster this morning too. My arm feels like it’s been punched but apart from that, I’m feeling fine. Happy with that!

MissingGG · 15/12/2021 22:24

I had my booster yesterday and have had no side effects other than a sore arm. I was expecting to feel awful as after my second jab I felt like I'd been hit by a bus for about 2 days and had really bad fatigue and muscle aches but I feel fine!

Birgitz · 15/12/2021 22:26

I had the Pfizer booster on Sunday. Had a bit of a sore arm for 24 hours, but nothing else. My DH had no side effects at all.
