I've been following people's threads regarding close contacts and positive results as I am a teacher and regularly a close contact.

Here's my story so far...

Outbreak in my class w/b 6th Dec

Staff and children asked to pcr but no requirement to isolate

I only work Thursday/Friday

In work Thurs and working with fellow class teacher

Colleage receives positive pcr Friday lunch time and sent home immediately to isolate

Cycle starts again- staff and children asked to pcr

My pcr is negative Sat 11th

Symptoms start on Sun 12th - daily lat flows negative - isolate as precaution

Positive lat flows Tuesday 14th and postal pcr sent.

Symptoms:
Sunday - ache scratchy throat
Monday- ache scratchy throat head ache
Tuesday- temp 39 dry cough scratchy throat head ache ache

School expecting confirmed pcr and that's me done until after Xmas. I can't see the kids before xmas, can't collect books to mark for new year and currently feel too ill to open my laptop and plan... I really don't know what January will bring for schools.

The spread is rapid in school since the requirement to isolate on close contact was removed. Its a mess.

I also have a fit and well 1 year old to look after.... wish me luck!!

I’ll raise a one year & 4 year old to look after alone when I had it 😂 it was tough but we got through it as you do as a parent. I think it’s sometimes better to have a reason to get up than wallowing in bed! That said, I threw the kids at my husband when he came back from his work trip & went straight to bed to watch TV in peace!

We had a huge delta outbreak in school in October. Over half the teaching staff got it & 1/3 of the kids. It was a bit chaotic but it was fine. My DD didn’t get covid & so continued to go in & she barely noticed anything except that they had supply staff. All staff & kids were back after the 10 days (some of that time rolled into half term so they got more like 14 days off), it wasn’t any kind of ‘mess’ really. Since then, cases have been low & this half term has been very calm.

It is disruptive but for a short period & then presumably there’s a good chunk of immunity for a while!

It's impossible to keep track and limit transmission without isolation. We should never have stopped bubbles and isolating close contacts.

I take my hat off to you with 2 kids... my wild 1 year old is currently stripping my Xmas tree and I've lost the will haha!

I’m so cross on behalf of you! I have absolutely no idea why they haven’t reintroduced isolation for household contacts as they have in Scotland. It’s just running through schools and I’m praying that my children will get through to the end of term without catching it. So many of their friends have family members at home with covid. I don’t see the point of telling people to limit social contact at Xmas parties if unvaccinated children are being exposed so frequently at school. Going to ruin so many peoples Christmas holidays!!!
Get well soon OP

Thank you. It really has taken hold in school now. So perhaps the Xmas hols will circuit break and spring term will be better... hopefully!

Bordernotboarder I'm glad we don't isolate anymore, my DD did 7 in school days in the last term out of 6 weeks. That's a huge loss to education in a gcse year and affected her in the end. I absolutely don't want close contact isolation brought back. The effects were not good and not once did she catch covid as a contact. In fact she caught and we don't know where from and nor did anybody who'd been around her catch it either

akg89 · 14/12/2021 15:28

Because if we isolate healthy teachers and children we can teach you remotely. If people are constantly getting ill no one is teaching or learning.

I am really sorry you're poorly. We are fortunate my kids school has been pretty unaffected by covid apart from a few isolated cases that haven't caused an outbreak. However we are currently a covid household since Dp caught it at work. I made the decision to keep my two home despite negative tests at the start with current circumstances in this country and also because my dc have sen and will not distance from Dp. Turns out Ds caught it anyway despite two negative tests, his third was positive. Dd hasn't caught it yet. It is crazy kids can go in if parents or siblings positive. It's been hard but I am glad I have. My kids school don't have any direct cases in school that I'm aware, I didn't want to ruin people's Christmas!

It has gone mad in my school too but thankfully the head sent year groups home to await PCR results! We will teach remotely until we are able to come back in. It has suddenly surged in our area though. Feel better soon.

@mudanddrain

Thats a very sensible headteacher.

Not blaming schools or head teachers. This system is not working though.
I hate remote teaching but would rather be in a position to teach something than nothing. These kids won't catch up with another year like the last.

Also glad we don’t isolate in general as it got ridiculous. But I do maintain that if someone in your household tests positive, it’s pretty likely that you will subsequently test positive if you are a child and therefore not vaccinated. It’s just causing too many cases in school.

We’ve had nearly half our staff go off in the last couple of weeks.
In my class one child was sent in when the rest of his family were positive at home. Of course his entire table went down with it and subsequently passed it around the class and staff. I was asked to have a pcr as a close contact. No symptoms. Negative lateral flow. Was told to come into school between pcr and result as I had no symptoms and negative lateral flow. I worked with 50+ children individually.
To my surprise, I’m now positive. Potentially passed it on to 50 children and families.

This doesn’t make sense. Please keep children off if there’s a positive case in your family. It’s not fair on staff or the other children/families.
