How to get DD to drive-in test site tomorrow

Apologies if this has been asked before - I've not found the answer by searching.

DH and I took PCR tests at a drive through site today after DH had a +ve LFT last night. Stupidly, we opted not to get our 11-y-o DD tested (she was -ve on LFTs and asymptomatic).

Seeing as DD has a slight snuffle, we've had a rethink and booked her a PCR at the same test site, for tomorrow lunchtime.

A friend has pointed out that DH and I are isolating, so legally we can't take her (unless one of us receives a negative PCR result tomorrow morning). Stupidly, we had assumed that getting a test for DD would be ok!

Nobody else lives with us, and we can't reasonably ask a friend to take our DD in their car (or, actually, my car, as that's the one registered with the test site.)

Does it make any difference if we've not received the results? We are symptomatic but I'm only showing mild symptoms at present.

Is our only option to order a home PCR test for DD instead?

You can drive to test site

thanksamillion · 13/12/2021 22:11

It's an acceptable reason to break isolation. It's in all the info. Just don't go anywhere else!

dementedpixie · 13/12/2021 22:11

Just drive her. You all live together anyway

NellieBertram · 13/12/2021 22:12

You can take her in the car, or you can get a home test.

SnarkyBag · 13/12/2021 22:14

It’s fine to take her

You can drive to the test site

gsaoej · 13/12/2021 22:16

Just drive her. Don’t tell and ignore friend

By 'acceptable' do you mean 'legal'? I can't find anywhere that makes it clear.

I very much want the answer to be yes. Selfishly, if DD does test positive tomorrow, we'll be clear for Christmas. If we wait for a postal test and it's positive, we won't.

Of course you can! It's literally listed on the reasons you can leave the house.

JanglyBeads · 13/12/2021 22:18

Yes it’s legal.

irregularegular · 13/12/2021 22:18

Don't put her in the car with DH! That would be silly, as it just increases the risk that she is infected. I hope you and DH didn't drive together to the test centre? Either drive her yourself, or if your hunch is that either you or she are likely to be infectious, then order a home one (and isolate in the meantime).

I'd also do an LFT first and definitely don't get in car together if positive.

I think isolation starts from when symptoms started, so makes no difference?

TreeLawney · 13/12/2021 22:20

You are allowed to leave isolation for medical reasons. This is a medical reason. Of course you can take her.

Lindy2 · 13/12/2021 22:24

You are allowed to drive to a test centre or to a post box for testing reasons, even when in isolation. You can also leave the house if you need medical assistance.

When I had Covid I was able to go and post tests for the DC. I just parked as close as I could to the post box and jumped out of the car to quickly post the boxes. I was on double yellows but I thought that was better than having to walk any distance at all.

I hope you all recover quickly.

BungleandGeorge · 13/12/2021 22:26

Yea it’s legal. If you got a postal one you’d have to leave the house to get to a post box anyway! Obviously don’t drive if your symptoms could impair your driving though

Minniem2020 · 13/12/2021 22:33

Yes you can go. I also had to drive to post mine and the dcs tests when we were isolating. Definitely a valid reason

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 13/12/2021 22:38

You can drive to a test site.
Or you can get a postal one, and you are allowed to leave your home to drive or walk to a designated post box (but nowhere else and straight home after).

Bobholll · 13/12/2021 23:11

As above. When I had covid, I did postal tests on my kids (they’ll only do them at home, they are terrified of the bloody things 🤦🏼‍♀️) & I had to walk them & us to the nearest priority post box about 20 minutes walk away. I didn’t have the car. T&T told me it was perfectly OK for me to do so. Testing is a legal reason you can leave home.
