My household has had multiple exposures to cases recently so I’m planning that it is when not if it breaks out within the family. So I want to prepare. Adults are jabbed and had/getting boosters. Primary school aged children attending school.

If you’ve had COVID, whether mild or more serious, particularly more recently please tell me what you really found helpful to have at home or what did you not have and you wishes you had that would have made thing easier for you?

Any input whether big or small appreciated.

The day / night flu type capsules helped me the most. Day had the caffeine and pain killers and such in. Seemed to help with the pains and such more than anything else.

Nothing helped with the gasping for air though, that was the worst bit for me. It terrified me to be absolutely honest.

Some

On a more serious note the oxomiter was useful for my husband as he is asthmatic so was good to keep an eye on it. No issues though.

Daynurse... but it was a year ago so I presume a different variant

Tissues

Plain, easy food

Paracetamol

We both felt absolutely rubbish and should have had more stuff in for survival. I’d planned for cooking nice things when all we wanted to do was lie on the sofa.

lalalalelalela · 13/12/2021 22:03

In fact stock up on any cold meds, because if you're isolating you can only get 2 packs delivered from anywhere at once.

FindingMeno · 13/12/2021 22:04

Oh and spoons of honey helped my cough.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 13/12/2021 22:04

Squash (drinking it hot helped my head) and nice to have a nice taste in my mouth.

One of those gel face masks you can freeze or heat for sinus pain

Cup a soup and fresh orange juice. I didn't really eat anything for about 5 days. I had really bad gastric symptoms(d not v)and couldn't face food (although I had to keep making it for the kids).
I survived on cup a soup and orange juice as they were the only thing that didn't make me nauseous.
I lost a stone in 10 days of being Ill, it was horrible.

Paracetamol and/or lemsip or equivalent
Glycerin throat lozenges. They help to manage a very sore throat with a persistent cough
Someone to deliver the paper. DH needs his daily sudoku to stay sane while in quarantine
Plenty of bread and butter. We more or less existed on marmite on toast for the first week
We both found our sense of taste was muted so anything sharp, salty or hot helped. Juice, satsumas and chilli.
Tissues

JustBkind · 13/12/2021 22:09

Paracetamol. Oximeter (though it can scare you more to be honest). Temp thermometer.
Ready meals for the microwave - you won’t feel like cooking. Sometimes you won’t even feel like eating but do try.
Some good movies/series for when your feel okay and need to take your mind off the situation. I felt this helped loads! And open your window for some fresh air every now and again.
Good luck 🤞🏻

It’s just been through our house. Paracetamol, calpol and cough medicine (and kids versions).

Chocolate biscuits.

Easy food to cook. There was no loss of appetite in this house.

Friends were hugely helpful in volunteering to bring stuff if possible. I lined up people to help with school runs but hasn’t been necessary yet.

Instant mash, which I normally don't eat.
