I’m in Germany, there’s not as much Omicron panic as in the UK, but we had a peak in cases a couple of weeks ago so are still coming down from that.
Over 18s have been able to book their boosters for a week or two now. I’m early 20s and getting mine at work this week (not essential service or health conditions).
On Wednesday we start vaccinating 5-11 year olds in my state. That will help the situation in primary schools. Secondary schools are doing well now that masks have been reinstated after the numbers went up last month.
It was important to see the incidence drop back down relatively quickly, and that’s what happened. They took action the minute numbers started going up, so we’ve been able to avoid a longer period with a stable, but high incidence. It’s a different approach to the UK.
Everywhere indoors, and mass events outdoors, is 2G access - vaccine or recovery certificate only. Has been like this for a while. On top of that, my workplace have reintroduced weekly PCR testing for everybody as an extra measure.
Masks were never dropped, not even in summer, there is 100% compliance. When using public transport now, you must also have a 2G pass, or a negative test result if unvaccinated, on top of your FFP2 mask. The test needs to be carried by a trained professional at a testing centre, you can’t just do one at home. They’re only valid 24 hours.
Nothing has really changed since the latest wave, or Omicron arriving here. We had pretty solid restrictions already so they’ve just kept those. Travel is easy and simple within the EU, I’m going abroad for Christmas and will be back the day before I go back to work, no extra testing or anything. Life just goes on and nobody is panicking about Christmas, that’s for sure. At least not in my state, some others have higher numbers so maybe they are.
