I'm booked in for my booster tomorrow afternoon. We all did PCR tests on Saturday after a friend we'd seen got a positive LFT. The results came back with me being the only one who's negative. I went to the walk in centre to get another PCR first thing this morning so am expecting the results before my booster tomorrow.

However, even if I don't have covid yet, with the best will in the world, I feel I'm likely to get it. Various things mean it's not easy to stay distant, though we are trying.

Is it worth me getting my booster? I was so happy when I got my appointment booked, but now I'm not sure adding the booster to possibly incubating covid is a great idea...I'd appreciate any thoughts.

We were told u can't, but others not even being asked when they go for a jab so who knows!

Personally I would cancel it as wouldn’t want to our the vaccinator and the other patients in the queue at risk. It’s a pain as it’s very hard to get a new appointment now (i know, I had covid two weeks ago so struggling now to get anything) but hopefully the booking system will calm down soon!

Do an LFT just before you go if your 2nd PCR is negative. It’s very common for some of the family to get it and not others.

Thank you for the thoughts. I'm still not decided. I suppose I don't have to decide until I get the PCR results, which may make the decision for me. I'll sit tight until then.

The first question they asked me before I entered the building was if I was a close contact to anyone who presently has covid and if I did was to come back another time, so they may not give you the booster.

Notonthestairs · 13/12/2021 14:01

Same as Mindy I was asked as I arrived if I had been in close contact with anyone who had CV. (can't remember the timescale of that contact).

If you live with someone who is infected, it's definitely better to postpone the booster, because your immunity is lower the first days after the vaccine, so the body has to defend itself from two perceived sources of infection, the equivalent of a big viral load.

If there is Omicron involved and you want to use a LFT, the SA doctor (Angelique Coetzee) says that it only comes positive if you have symptoms, and for a limited period of time:

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/12/2021 14:05

Same, I was also asked if I'd been in contact with anyone. Good job too, I hate the thought of our volunteers being unnecessarily exposed. It's not going to protect you in time anyway.

Same happened to me past week. I called my local vaccination hub. They told me in no uncertain terms if I don't have symptoms and lft negative on the morning- come in and have it. I was worried about it as my dd has covid and I haven't distanced from her, supported her with cuddles etc. But now 9days later none if the rest of us have caught it.
