6 months+ since last vaccine - Anyone else?

jpbee · 13/12/2021 10:50

Is anyone else in the same boat with 6 months+ passed since 2nd does of vaccine? I'm 35 and can finally try and book the booster today but website has crashed.

Am I even protected at this point or am I essentially unvaccinated? I'm not panicking (yet), just trying to get an idea as I will take more precautions if is is the latter (e.g. work from home full time).

Can you go to a walk in centre near you? That's what most people seem to do around here.

jpbee · 13/12/2021 11:26

@Cookerhood I'm tempted to do yes, the trouble is I'm at work all day then have DD to collect from nursery and bedtime etc, so I'd rather have an exact appointment time at a vaccine centre as I can't really afford to be there for hours (I might be wrong but have a vision of long queues at walk-ins). I think I'll wait until tomorrow to give the online system time to catch up from todays chaos, then if that fails I'll speak to work about going to a walk-in.

I just suddenly feel unnerved by how long it has been since I had 2nd jab, especially with statements advising booster after just 3 months.

Yes me. Had my second dose in May so 7 months in. Actually managed to book for this month but now have covid so obviously cancelled. So I'm in no major rush and will hopefully try and book for jan. had my first dose in Feb!

Cookerhood · 13/12/2021 11:35

Funnily enough, I've just seen on our local facebook page that there are queues for those with appointments & walk ins are going straight in (2 different queues). I guess it's going to be different everywhere.

DoodleBelle · 13/12/2021 11:37

Our local walk in at a large hospital had a wait time of approx 10 minutes when I went yesterday

jpbee · 13/12/2021 11:39

@Coronachristmas21 Oh gosh, do you know why you haven't been offered the booster until now? Or were you originally offered a while ago? I had my jabs very early for my age group which I assumed was due to having asthma. Yet have now been grouped back in with other 30-39 year olds. But most of my friends in same age group only had their second jab 3 months ago, and I'm on 6.5..

@Cookerhood Oh how odd, might give walk in a try in that case!

Thanks @DoodleBelle It sounds like my assumption about long waits at walk-in was wrong then!

Just shows that people are still listening to our Great Leader because everywhere is rammed today.

jpbee · 13/12/2021 11:48

@TeloMere Yes there definitely seems to be a rush since the announcement last night.

I had 1st in jan and 2nd in April so 8 months for me. I did have COVID in august though so hopefully have some protection. Was reluctant to have booster as 2nd jab made me really poorly caused a 3 day migraine sickness etc so I'm trying to time it when I haven't got kids on my own or im not working.

titanic25 · 13/12/2021 17:48

I am in same boat. i have not even tried to book yet. by the looks of its going i am going to look into it.i had pretty bad covid in september si hopefully might have some antibodies left

fakereview · 13/12/2021 17:56

I had my second in the middle of June and have my booster booked for 21st, so will be just over the six months. I had AZ but don't believe that I am essentially unprotected now, just less than I had.

NoodlesPoodles · 13/12/2021 17:57

I had an 8 month wait for mine, and I was starting to get a bit worried about waning protection going into winter. Fortunately had my booster yesterday after finally being invited to book it. I'm in the over 40s group (just 😉).

Delatron · 13/12/2021 20:09

Mine was due tomorrow. But just waiting on a PCR.

It’s a shame they didn’t sort this sooner. They’ve left lots of 40-50 years olds with very low protection. And now opened it up to much younger age groups so even more difficult to get an appointment.

I managed to move mine from 21st Dec to 14Th Dec as that was the earliest date available. But now currently a close contact of lots of unboosted friends in the same age group just testing positive.

I’m hoping there are still some antibodies from the last couple of vaccinations but I also really wish the government had made the decision to switch to 3 months a good month ago. Before all the Christmas mixing.

Kingsmede · 13/12/2021 20:11

Yes, over 50, last jab six months ago and teaching too. Missed my appointment yesterday as I'm awaiting a PCR result.
Now no chance of an appointment

3 hour wait outside for walk ins here.

jpbee · 14/12/2021 11:02

Well I managed to get an appointment finally using the online booking system. It was crashing in the morning yesterday but worked in the afternoon. No appointment at my local vac centre until 02 Jan mind, but I'm just glad to have it booked now.

@whereareyousellotape I hope you can find a suitable time to have it done. I know of a few people who were unwell after the jabs and are reluctant about the booster and trying to time it when they don't have anything on.

@titanic25 I'm sure you having covid in September topped up your antibodies. I still don't really know how long is too long to not have any kind of vaccine top up.

@fakereview I feel the same that surely I'm not already completely free of antibodies after 6 months. It just unnerved me that they were starting to suggest boosters after just 3 months of the second jab.

@NoodlesPoodles I'm glad you have had it after so long, makes me feel a bit daft worrying over 6 month gap when there are others with 8 months!

@Delatron I agree, it does seem a bit unfair that they have suddenly got rid of the age group order and just opened it up to everyone. And yes not good timing doing this now right before Christmas, feels a bit too late.

@Kingsmede I hope you can get a new appointment soon. I managed to get on online yesterday after a few failed attempts in the queue.

You are not now essentially unvaccinated. Effectiveness wains but it’s not just a sudden drop to 0% bang on 6 months. It’ll differ from person to person. But it’s like a fall from 90% to 60%, which frankly, is still ok.

You are 35, you really don’t need to panic. I’m 34 & I’ve had covid twice. Once unvaccinated & once double jabbed. I was more ill after being double jabbed! But both times, I was fine. Felt quite shit for a few days, then got better. Really nothing to worry about. Certainly not need to be panicking about anything!

jpbee · 16/12/2021 16:29

@Bobholll Thanks for the info, it wasn't that I thought I was at 0% suddenly, but more that it might have reduced to that level over the past 6 months.

And yes you're right, it is unlikely I would become notably unwell anyway. It is the inconvenience/isolation/risk to those around me which make me worry about catching it too though.
