Drinks with friends - should I go?

janet8 · 13/12/2021 09:32

I'm double jabbed and had Covid a month ago. I'm due to meet a group of friends for drinks tomorrow but am having doubts - I'm worried about catching it again and spreading it to family members.

What are the chances of me catching it again so soon after having it?

Its a bit of an unknown... if you had covid a month ago it was likely to be delta. It seems that people who have recently had delta can still get omicrom unfortunately

can you choose a more ventilated venue to try to minimise risk? (like a heated pub garden - not v eco friendly i know)

Brokenrecord3006 · 13/12/2021 10:14

I think unless you're planning to not leave your house for the foreseeable, there's no need to cancel. Probably best to enjoy yourself before any further restrictions potentially come in.

Mybalconyiscracking · 13/12/2021 10:16

I do not give a rats arse, why are you asking random strangers on the internet?
Do your risk analysis, act on the result! It’s not hard!

@Mybalconyiscracking ODFOD…

Indeed. These constant threads are getting fairly dull now.
janet8 · 13/12/2021 10:32

@DespairingHomeowner I see, I didn’t realise that - I thought because I’d had Covid of any description recently I’d be relatively safe.

OP posts:
RobinPenguins · 13/12/2021 10:33

There is no should. In your shoes I would. I haven’t had covid but am double vaccinated and I would. But if you think you’ll feel uncomfortable or unsafe then don’t. They’re your friends, they’ll understand.

janet8 · 13/12/2021 10:34

@SagittariusDwarf then why click on them, read and post? Confused

ODFO yourself op

We can't tell you this. No one can can tell you this. Impossible question

janet8 · 13/12/2021 10:38

@AppleBottomedJeans and another one! Why click on the thread if you’ve got nothing helpful to add? Hmm

What do you want people to say?

Everyone interprets risk subjectively. What you might consider an acceptable risk might be seen as unacceptable by others, based on exactly the same information. I'd say that if you're worried enough to ask strangers' opinions, then probably for your own peace of mind you shouldn't go. But as others have said, only you can decide.

SagittariusDwarf · 13/12/2021 10:58

Why do you think anyone has anything helpful to add though? Go. Or don't go. Up to you 🤷🏻‍♀️

underneaththeash · 13/12/2021 10:59

Pretty low odds of getting it again so soon.

XenoBitch · 13/12/2021 11:00

You are double jabbed and just had Covid, so your body is teeming with antibodies at the moment.
If it was me, I would still go... but then the pessimist in me says that it would be the last chance to do something like that for months so get out and enjoy it whilst you can.
Like pp said, maybe sit in a pub garden (get some hot mulled wine down you).
If you do go, have a lovely time Smile

janet8 · 13/12/2021 11:00

What do you want people to say?

@IcedPurple maybe to share any information that might help me make a decision? Someone has already said that even though I’ve just had Delta I could still catch Omicron. Which I wasn’t aware of. So those sorts of insights are helpful.

OP posts:
janet8 · 13/12/2021 11:01

@underneaththeash even though there’s a new variant out there though? That’s what I’m confused about.

GiltEdges · 13/12/2021 11:03

This would be my thinking too. You have at least the same level of protection that someone with two vaccines and a recent booster would have and the early evidence suggests that's pretty good so 🤷🏼‍♀️

janet8 · 13/12/2021 11:15

@GiltEdges does that still apply with regards to the new variant though?

XenoBitch · 13/12/2021 11:17

The booster program is being rushed through to help against the new variant. You have just had a natural booster in the form of your recent Covid infection.

Nidan2Sandan · 13/12/2021 11:41

The T-cell response from natural covid infection alongside the antibodies will mean its highly unlikely you'll catch it again.

Sounds to me like you're looking for an excuse. Just tell your friends you dont want to go.

RachC2021 · 13/12/2021 13:12

I’d not go if it was in London. I’d consider it elsewhere — tests beforehand and outside if possible.

THIS. Be an adult, make up your own mind.

PollyIndia · 13/12/2021 13:25

I'd go. I'm on my last day of isolation today and got a party on Saturday (in that there London), and I'm definitely going to go. January is bleak in the best year, and I don't think 2022 is going to be the best year, so might as well make the most of things being open and try and find a bit of festive joy and dancing. Christmas itself is just me and 9 year old DS and will be nice and quiet, but not a big joyful Christmas.
Hopefully I'm boosted by my infection, but if I'm not and I get omicron, presumably I wouldn't know anyway as I'll still test positive for a while am sure.
Everyone has to make their own risk assessment though

zombiedog21 · 13/12/2021 13:46

I would. In fact, I'm going to a gig on Thursday, 800 people in a packed sold-out room!

uselesss · 13/12/2021 13:58

It's all OTT. Do what you want. If people are going to be dicks and run up against strangers on a daily basis and then go into work to lick all the door handles we can hardly stop them. You can only be sensible yourself. Do a LF, if negative then take a mask and some sanitiser and a clean pack of tissues and enjoy yourself. Wash your hands regularly and don't touch everything in site (shoppers groping everything around them PRE covid was bad enough). It's not a bloody vaccine anymore anyway, it's basically a medicine we all need a top up of. Everyone seems to be getting stupidly ill from a simple cold now because we've been locked up for the best part of two years so we all might as well get back to normal and be a bit more conscious about public hygiene.
