Should I send DS to school, sister positive, he has a cold.

Really not sure what to do.

DS is Y8. Has had 8 days off school this term with tonsillitis. Recent school report was disappointing (the two things possibly aren't unrelated). He has a cold - snotty and sneezy but not really ill.

DD2 got a positive LFT result last night. No symptoms. Booked in for PCR today.

Do I send DS in? My understanding of letter of law is that I do, and I don't really want him missing more school, or an unauthorised absence. DH (who works in NHS and does.our local omicron modelling, so isn't unaware of situation) says he should go. DS is worried about it and doesn't think he should.

Book him for a PCR and don’t rely on LFTs. Also book yourself and your DH one too!

Well done OP, for being sensible. I sincerely hope that Covid doesn't hit your household too hard and that anyone who catches it recovers quickly.

No of course you shouldn't.

Our school are amazing- we are being actively encouraged and asked to keep siblings off if brothers or sisters are testing positive.

Absolute common sense.

Why would you not keep off . Especially with less than two weeks to go until Christmas.

Our head would not be impressed if you were at our school and you took him in.

I thought my Dd had a cold and she had 2 negative LFT. On D3 of developing cold symptoms, I took her for PCR and positive.

She was off school 2 days before showing any symptoms (weekend) and i did not send her in with symptoms. And I have heard at least 3 cases from school while she was off (I told parents suspicion and they started to test kids). It could be worse

I am pretty sure she got it from school because we had no other close contacts except school during 1 week before symptoms (WFH and online shopping)

Thank you PurpleDaisies and CallmeHendricksGingleBells.

No worries: two people misunderstanding so I obviously wasn’t as clear as intended.

DD was positive, but DS negative. I've retested him today as he was only able to get a nasal sample yesterday. (He's still off school.) Also PCR-d the rest of the family.

Thanks for the good advice. It's sometimes just hard to see clearly when you're in the thick of things.

One of my dcs tested positive in half term. The other one had a cold and tested negative on Pcr and lateral flow, as did I.

Despite the close contact we had, neither me or the other dc caught it. We did lateral flows every day just in case. We were lucky that I was off work anyway and the dcs were off school so didn’t have the dilemma of what to do about that.

I’m not sure if the omicron variant is more transmissable( mind you they said the same about delta) but it isn’t nailed on that you will all get it.
