Booster after Covid

Evening all. Had my positive PCR five weeks ago. Was double vaxxed, am 43 and still ended up in hospital, though that was because of collapsing, passing out and smashing my head as opposed to needing oxygen in and of itself. I’m still feeling rough, though that’s another thread!

When it comes to my booster I know it’s not before 28 days but have also heard that three months is most effective. I obvs have the benefit of lots of natural immunity on top of my original two doses so it seems to me I can stand to wait. It makes sense to me that I utilise my natural immunity for a few months and then have a booster in the new year to top it up when that immunity starts to wane.

Any thoughts or experience? My new worry is that the covid pass will be extended to a three dose requirement once everyone has had the chance to have it!

What were your first two doses? If AZ I'd definitely book my booster asap, if Pfizer or Moderna I might wait till after Christmas and see how things lie then.

I dunno. I wouldn’t push it too far. I had Covid then my first jab ten weeks later, then second jab about ten weeks after that. Less than five months later I tested negative for antibodies.
So, with omicron getting round natural immunity in South Africa don’t leave it too long.

Does omicron get round natural immunity more than it gets round a booster? I’ve been looking for info on exactly that to help me decide!

I called my GP, they said to get it asap. So I got it on day 30.

There are no answers to the questions you've asked, it's all supposition and guess work at the moment.

BeanCalledPickle · 13/12/2021 20:41

Yeah you are completely right of course. It does my head in that I need to make medical decisions without an evidence base. I will obviously have it in the new year just don’t quite want to do it now

The overwhelming evidence from South Africa is that it gets round natural immunity more than any previous variant.
Have you considered the possibility that the reason you caught Covid after two jabs is that you don’t make or maintain antibodies all that well? You may need all the protection you can get. The booster would be in addition to any natural immunity.

I had the same internal debate. I had Covid at the start of November and was double jabbed with AZ. The advice was not to delay. I've had the booster (Moderna) a week ago - on day 28.

I've booked my booster for the 18th. I tested positive for covid on 15/11.

Your thoughts are similar to mine. I'm hoping to fully recover before getting the booster.
