Not fit to RTW after self-isolation

My SI ends today but I'm not fit to return to work. What's the process?

(I'm sure the info must be somewhere on the gov.uk site, but I cannot find it. My brain has turned to porridge.)

Same as your works normal sickness policy. Follow that.

CorrBlimeyGG · 12/12/2021 09:50

As above, follow the work sickness absence procedure.

Hi OP. You have my sympathies. I'm due to go back to work after SI with covid later in the week but I'm not sure I'll be well enough either.

As others have said it depends on your employer but best guest is you probably need to get in touch with your GP surgery and explain. I would imagine they can help.

I think my employer would require a sick note (or whatever it is now) as I have obviously already been off work for 10 days.

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

Overthebow · 12/12/2021 10:40

Usual sickness policy at your work.

ChristmasCovid · 12/12/2021 10:52

Can you contact your go and request a sick note?
Then contact work to advise you are too unwell still to return.

Hope you feel better soon.

I want to know where I stand before I speak with work. Does the end date of self isolation act a day zero of self certification, or as I'll have been off for 10 days do I have to get a doctor's note?

You'll have to ask work, it's their decision.

Couldntmissthisonethisyear · 12/12/2021 15:24

In my work it would be that the 10 days was your "self certification" with proof of positive so the extension to this would be a requirement for a Drs sick note.

I think it could differ from workplace to workplace so you'd only know once you ask them.

LordEmsworth · 12/12/2021 15:30

Do you mean you have been self-isolating because you have/had Covid? In which case you were already sick, the fact you were self-isolating because of the nature of your illness is a red herring. You need a fit note from the GP.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 12/12/2021 15:33

If you still have symptoms then you don’t return . Is that what you mean that your not fit to return ?

PPCD · 12/12/2021 19:53

111.nhs.uk/isolation-note/

Here's the link to get an isolation note.

This is the guidance for employers on that link:
"Use your discretion around the need for medical evidence if an employee has been told to self-isolate because of coronavirus.

If you need evidence that an employee cannot work because of coronavirus, ask them to get an isolation note.

Employees who cannot work because of coronavirus should avoid asking their GP for a fit note. This is to let doctors focus on their patients."

At my work the 10 days would be self cert (normally 7 days, but extended to 10 for covid) and you would need a gp fit note for anytime after that. Do an econsultation online and you can just ask for a fit note with that.

I needed another 2 days off sick, 1 day working from home (CPD) and the following weekend before I was (just about) ready to go back. This was agreed with my headteacher without a huge issue.
