Sick for a month, but still negative?

About a month ago my daughter picked up a cold bug from nursery and passed it on to me. Whenever she's ill, I get ill. Stuffy nose, very mild coughing, etc. I felt sick like I had a cold, but not dreadful. I never took any medication aside from Sudafed. I developed sinusitis as I often do with a cold. Was on Sudafed for a week until it finally cleared. Then a day or so later developed a sore throat and a cough - daughter still coughing quite badly again. This lasted about a week for both of us, but her cough was much worse. Then again I felt better for a couple days, but a few days later had a sore throat again, slightly stuffy nose and now the past 3 days I've felt a little off at times during the day. Slightly nauseous, stuffy nose and still coughing up phlegm in the morning which seems to have lasted from the first time I was ill about a month ago.

I've LFT quite regularly throughout and have been negative each time. Never had corona either. Is it possible (I mean of course it's possible) - perhaps likely is a better word - for me just to have had a weakened immune system which resulted in me coming down with one cold after another, or could a potential coronavirus infection just not be picked up with my LFT's?

No one in my house has ever tested positive btw

You're supposed to PCR if you have a cough as it's a Covid symptom. Did you do one? You can't rely on LFTs due to their inaccuracy. It could just be a cold but PCR is supposed to be done if you have Covid symptoms.

I had Covid in August which presented like a cold, and then I had an actual cold last month where I had a cough and sore throat, I felt worse than I did with Covid! It's very random.

You should do a PCR if you've not done one already.

Same! I had covid in October and have a cold now. I feel much worse with the cold.

You should book a PCR with those symptoms as should your daughter to be sure whether it is Covid.

I think I’ve had this same thing.

I’ve never tested positive. But it’s taking a while to shift. Bad sinuses, terrible cough.

It says really clearly not to do lateral flow tests if you have symptoms! They are for finding asymptomatic cases. Book a PCR test!

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 12/12/2021 13:19

No, not done a PCR test before. Everyone I've spoken to in person seemed to only go for a PCR if they had a positive LFT. Admittedly I've not kept up to speed with what the recommendations are. The rules seem to always be changing.

The rules have always been if you have symptoms you need a PCR not a LFT. I’m unsure how people
Are still not catching onto this so far down the line.

Nowhere has it been stated that you only get a PCR if you have a positive LfT ! Both you and your dd should have had PCR tests, several times by the sound of it. You could have been sending your dd into school with active Covid !
Covid often presents with cold symptoms. Get tested.

FrownedUpon · 12/12/2021 13:50

Get a PCR if you have symptoms. Surely everyone knows this by now!

The rules have always been to get a PCR if you have a cough, temperature or loss of smell and taste. That's never changed.
