Rant needed - inconsiderate people

Why do some people think they're above everyone one else??

I can't go into too much detail in case I'm outed but

You test positive on X day, why is it ok to go on a full on night out on day 9 - ok it's 1 day before isolation is over but you should be still isolating

I have another example (same people) but it would be too obvious so it's not like they've done 1 thing

Pisses me off people clearly give zero shits

Rant over

I was in town yesterday and was amazed at the number of people not wearing a mask. Funnily enough they were all young, I’d say in their 20’s.
I won’t be going back in again.

Mybalconyiscracking · 11/12/2021 06:47

Well they obviously give a few shits or they wouldn’t be isolating at all!

This I may true but I don't watch them 24/7 so no idea if they have been out, this is just one of 2 I know about!!

Isolation is from date symptoms started, not test date so if they had symptoms, they may have been out of the self-isolation period.

OldTinHat · 11/12/2021 07:03

Not isolating, not wearing masks and not keeping distance is giving me the rage atm. I popped into a supermarket yesterday and hardly anyone had a mask on (no one wore one in the cinema I was in beforehand). I was barged in the arse by a basket whilst loading my shopping on the conveyor, the person behind me was that close. Who also wasn't wearing a mask.

Toadsinholes · 11/12/2021 07:08

Do you really think a few hours is going to make that much difference? I find it hard to care, or be that invested in other people’s isolation tbh. Like someone unthread said, it might have been they had symptoms & therefore didn’t have to do 10 days from testing.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 11/12/2021 07:13

Day 9 is hardly giving ‘zero shits’.

The 10 day isolation period is based on hospitalised patients, and still has a margin for error.

For the vast majority of people, they will not spread virus 48 hours after symptoms have disappeared.

Some people are being very irresponsible, including going out when actually symptomatic, but you have picked a very bad example.

SivvyPlath · 11/12/2021 07:30

Totally agree.

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 11/12/2021 07:33

Because it's 10 days from symptoms.

SpinsForGin · 11/12/2021 07:36

This. My DH got his positive result back last Saturday but was out of isolation by Wednesday because of when his symptoms started and the length of time it took for the test results to come back.
User378436 · 11/12/2021 07:43

Their isolation was probably finished because as PP said it's from symptoms, have you got access to everyones covid symptoms so you can know when people can stop isolating OP?

Unless you know for definite the details (as others said isolation rules are based on symptoms not just test date) then really it’s none of your business.

I think people don't care as much. We evolve and adapt - it takes a lot of energy to be in a constant state of high alert and humans naturally behave in ways that conserve energy. I suspect many people now just consider covid as something that can happen, in much the same way that cancer or heart disease does. I know that seems bleak, but it is true. And just like cancer, severe covid is something that is very stark and dreadful and it is happening to you or someone you are close to, but other people are significantly less emotionally invested. It's not pc to say so, but many many people will conforming in a performative way - underneath it they don't actually care in any significant way.

Very interesting and well written post. I completely agree with you. I'm not sure it's a bad thing either.

Hit the nail on the head there!
tappitytaptap · 11/12/2021 09:41

Just IN town or inside shops? You don’t have to wear a mask for the former.

This is the most sensible and relatable thing I've read on here about covid for a long time!

Yeah, this pretty much sums up where I am.

What does their age have to do with it? You can be exempt at any age.

Did you avoid town two or three weeks ago when cases were almost as high as they are now, but masks were not mandatory?

I agree.

I really have noticed that where I am. The fear was very real last year about being seriously ill and that really has diminished over time.

A lot will follow rules simply because they don't want to get criticised rather than a belief that the rules make any difference

redandwhite1 · 14/12/2021 17:29

They didn't have any symptoms, did LFTs which were positive so did PCRs
