‘Exempt from testing for 90 days’ help..

Hello.

I’m really confused and need some advice.
I tested positive for Covid on the 22nd November.

I’m now exempt from testing (PCR/Lateral flows) for the next 90 days as a result of having Covid.

I know it’s a while off and things are changing rapidly but I go away to the states in February (within my 90 day test exemption)
I have to show proof of positive test from November and a letter from my GP saying I’m well to fly.. fine no problem.

However.
The day I land back is exactly 90 days would I be required to do a PCR on 90 days?

My understanding would be no as it’s still within 90 days (90th day precisely)

So 90 days is the Sunday, I wouldn’t test.
But I’d be required to test Monday (91 days)I hope that makes sense.

I’m looking at having to potentially move the holiday becuase I’m due back to work on the Monday and can’t quarantine and wait for PCR results.but if I’m exempt from testing I wouldn’t need to worry about the quarantine waiting for PCR results.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
(And I know things could be different by then)
Sorry for waffling!

I would just pay for the same day test on the Sunday.

I’ve been trying to find same day results for a Sunday. I can’t seem too :(

The 'don't test for 90 days' does not apply to tests on returning to the UK.

See gov.uk, scroll down to under "What to do if you are a contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19". From about the 16th paragraph under that heading:

"If you have previously received a positive COVID-19 PCR test result you are not usually advised to be re-tested within 90 days of this result. However, you should have a PCR test within 90 days of a previous positive PCR test if:

you develop any new symptoms of COVID-19
you are a close contact of someone who has been identified as a suspected or confirmed case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19
you are required to take a PCR test upon entry into the UK

If you are tested within 90 days of a positive PCR test result for any of these 3 reasons, and the PCR test result is positive, you must stay at home, self-isolate and follow the stay at home guidance."

Thank you for this!

So I take a test before I fly home.

But what about the PCR (day 2) would I be exempt from that? Because I’d already be in the UK and would of tested to get in.

I think a lot of things will be clarified by then, OP. To be honest you might not even be able to travel ….

I know, I have a feeling it’ll be cancelled. But I’m just freaking out now trying to work things out. In terms of money for testing ect.

Such a nightmare isn’t it!

Yes, you still have to do the day 2 test. Well, you have to book it and then nobody checks whether you do it or not, so that's up to you really...

Which airport do you fly back to? They normally have rapid test centres that operate 7 days a week.

amicissimma · 10/12/2021 20:56

With the Day 2 test now you are supposed to isolate until you get the result.

amicissimma · 10/12/2021 20:58

Or, I should say, you are supposed (by law, I think) to isolate until you get a negative result.

poshme · 11/12/2021 08:58

You're not exempt from testing for 90 days.

You still have to do the day 2 test. In the summer I had to do a test when I got back from abroad, and it was only 30 days after I'd tested positive.

I tested negative.

I fly back into Heathrow. I have found a same day result place there. So I’ll just use that as I’m due back to work the next morning!
