Isolation query

Nellodee · 10/12/2021 16:46

Please help me with this one. My husband has just finished his ten day isolation but is still testing positive on a lateral flow test.He still has a cough and no sense of smell but no fever.

He says that he now has to isolate for another ten days and the rest of the household do too. I think he's being bloody ridiculous and as soon as he stops testing positive on the lfts we are all in the clear.

Which of us is right? The website is quite unclear about a positive lateral flow within 90 days that is just a continuation of the previous illness.

He doesn't need to isolate.

trevthecat · 10/12/2021 16:48

Once you have done your 10 days you are free, regardless of Lateral flow testing positive

ChristmasCovid · 10/12/2021 16:51

As long as he hasn’t got a fever, runny nose & sneezing or d&v he does not need to extend isolation.
He also should not retest for 90 days unless he develops new symptoms.

Shouldn't be doing tests as they can show positive for a while. He doesn't have to continue isolating.

Nellodee · 10/12/2021 16:52

I think he got confused because my daughters school required a negative lateral flow before she returned, but they could well have just made that up.

@ChristmasCovid runny nose/sneezing? I'd be isolating permanently if I had to isolate for that.
I have thought you were free after 10 days providing you were fever free for 48hours as cough can linger for weeks

Smurf123 · 10/12/2021 16:54

@Nellodee is it not just your daughter who has to have the negative lateral flow not the person who was positive (your dh)

Nellodee · 10/12/2021 17:01

Sorry, I wasn't clear. My daughter was positive on a pcr just before my husband and her school insisted on a negative lateral flow test before she could return to school.

After her ten day isolation, that is.

Following guidance to the letter, if he has another positive LFD, he should have another PCR done, and if that comes back positive, he should isolate again. Now in reality post people will ignore it and stop isolating,…. As you are advised not to test within 90 days. See the Stay at home guidance, testing after your isolation period ends.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 10/12/2021 17:09

Some schools are, but it's not law/guidance.

I assume he had a positive PCR?
If he did, then he only needs to isolate for 10 days (PCR day is day 0) he can go out day 11 but not if he still has symptoms (other than a cough as that can take ages to go)

Most people do seem to test negative at that point, but they may still show positive, but not be infectious.

Personally I'd isolate longer IF I could.

Nellodee · 10/12/2021 17:12

That's the bit that he's reading, about having a lfd positive within 90 days. But we can't go round in bloody circles, it's the same bloody illness!

I'd be the same @Smurf123! I've got a permanent cough and runny nose, so I'd never be out of isolation.
