Over 40, over three months, pre booked booster - turned away?!

I've just discovered on the local FB page that local centres are apparently turning away the over 40s if they're under six months with no underlying health issues, regardless of website eligibility and booking. How can that be?! Dh is booked in a local pharmacy centre this afternoon so I rang the centre direct and the leader said they will refuse anyone over 40 but still under six months regardless of any booking. He said that their systems in the centre itself will not allow them to do anyone under six months. Yet someone on the FB post took their partner this morning in exactly same circumstances - over 40, five months, pre booked, and was done no questions?!?! I don't understand? Had anyone else experienced something similar? What a collosal waste of NHS resources.

Yes it was happening here. From what I understand the government made the announcement but the software thingy hadn't been filtered down to the vacc centres yet. Ours opened up to 3 monthers at 11am yesterday. So if you went at 10.45am nope. Might be different in different areas though.

Wakemeuuuup · 10/12/2021 14:48

Our walk in has just opened for all adults who are 91 days post 2nd jab

So frustrating! He's in the queue now, so we'll see what they say when he gets to the front. It's ridiculous that they can potentially refuse a pre booked appt!

Whilst I didn't get turned away, I went first thing Wednesday which was the very earliest you could go as the system opened up tues night. They didn't have a sticker for me, and I had to fill a form in instead, maybe this was why. He didn't know why I hadn't come up for a proper sticker but this would make sense

Just had mine at 5.5 months but they were also turning people away. According to the chap who did mine, the 3 month rule doesn’t start until Monday. The website has been allowing people to book before this and it’s causing a lot of problems as people obviously think that, if they can book, it must be ok. The pharmacy I’m at said they were allowing people to go ahead provided they were < 2 weeks from 6 months. But silly given that it drops to 3 months so soon.

Same here OP (Hampshire)

Loudestcat14 · 10/12/2021 15:25

I had mine cancelled yesterday for the same reason. I'm late 40s and had my second dose at the beginning of July yet because it isn't quite six months the pharmacist's system wouldn't recognise it. Apparently the system will change on Monday so I've rebooked mine for Tues morning.

helpadvicewhateverneeded · 10/12/2021 15:25

Meant to add NHS England advice to Hampshire PCT's is still to wait for 6 months post 2nd dose.

ColettesEarrings · 10/12/2021 15:47

They did him! Practically every second attendee at this particular centre seems to be in the same position and I think the head chap has given up and is just overriding the system as clinical lead.

No issues for me today. Over 40, 5 months post 2nd dose.

The computer says no has been a bit of a problem all along. I won't bore them with the issues about actually getting the jab into the arm of my (household of immune suppressed CEV) teens but it also included being turned away from a property made booking.

It really has been quite shambolic, with announcements being made when the actual logistics haven't been sorted. The major failures in the third primary programme for the most critically vulnerable being the nadir.

That said, teens here got a text about boosters today. They are well over three months but not yet at six, but I think this looks promising for the system actually working. Given earlier experience, I won't fully believe it until the shot is actually in the arm, but it does look more competent that the previous omnishambles

Firstworddinosaur · 10/12/2021 16:32

Yep happened to me this week. Computer at the centre said no even though I'd booked online, they'd not even heard that 3 months was the time now. They said only after 6 and I'm 5 months 1 week. I'm going to try again next week.

CarrieBlue · 10/12/2021 17:23

No issue with my booster today - 5 1/2 months, didn’t question it at all as long as you were booked in already.

Ceara · 10/12/2021 19:25

Blimey. DH (over 40, not yet 6 months post 2nd jab) rebooked his booster for last night at the local pharmacy, turned up and was jabbed without any issue. Sounds like he was lucky.
