Covid Self-Isolating Twice in a Row?

LGalLondon · 10/12/2021 12:39

Hey everyone! I just have a question if anyone knows the answer or has any links, as I can't seem to find the answer online. I'm currently self-isolating for covid, due to end on 17th. I live with two housemates; I have been keeping very separate from them but they've both taken PCRs (awaiting results) and are going to do another on Monday to make sure they're all good. One of them made a comment that if either/both of theirs was positive (they took their test a couple of days after mine) the isolation period would have to start again for all of us. However, I didn't know that to be true - surely if I've done my 10 days from when symptoms started and I have no symptoms, I'm therefore immune and wouldn't have to isolate for a further few days? That doesn't seem to make sense :(

It's not true unless you're not double jabbed. If you're not 14 days post 2nd jab you would have to isolate as a contact.

Suzi888 · 10/12/2021 12:43

Do you have covid now?

Only if you have fresh symptoms would you need to isolate.
TTP will decide who has to isolate.

Covid can stay in your system for up to 90 days after testing positive, you’ll continue to test positive (or can do).

if you are double vaccinated then no you wont have to isolate.

If you aren't and they test positive during your isolation yours ends when it was due to and doesn't get extended.

ColettesEarrings · 10/12/2021 12:44

Mind you, if your positive 10 days overlap then you wouldn't isolate again anyway. But if any of you test positive again in the future you might have to depending on above vaccination status.

Bigfathairyones · 10/12/2021 12:47

Even if you have to do the 10 day isolation, it's only 1 isolation period, and once you've done yours, you can leave the house, whether others have finished theirs or not. If you google the household isolation guidelines it has a good diagram (but I'm useless and can't link it!)

Thanks for your response, I'm not vaccinated unfortunately (due to an exemption), I have covid right now with minor symptoms which started a few days ago; tested positive a few days ago and got told the date to end my isolation. So in this case, if either of my housemates tested positive a few days later, I can still end my isolation when I was originally due to?

Yes. Once your Covid is done you're free to go

kimlo · 10/12/2021 12:51

if you have a medical exemption and have been told you can't have a vaccine, then you are considered vaccinated for the isolation rules.

As the original covid case in the house your isolation ends once you have done your isolation regardless of vaccination status.

Your isolation ends when your 10 days is up, say they got covid in your last day of isolation, you could still go out as normal on day 11 unless you still have a fever.

Dp has covid and isolation ends on the 15th. If I get covid in the meantime he'll go work on the 16th and be doing the Christmas food shop etc.

Your roommates are wrong!

Even if you are not vaccinated as someone's who's just had covid, you can go out after 10 days

Hope you feel better soon 💕
