Moderna booster delay?

Multicolouredsequins · 10/12/2021 08:50

Hello, anyone else having difficulty booking moderna booster, I am eligible for my booster but it says I can't book online. Husband is younger and had his first two jabs after me (AZ) and has already booked his booster for early January, not sure what's going on?

Does it have to be Moderna? There isn't very much of it around unfortunately. How old are you and when exactly wad your second jab?

Multicolouredsequins · 10/12/2021 09:11

I just assumed it would be the same type. 2nd jab was late June. NHS says all 40yrs+ eligible and 3 months post 2nd jab should be eligible. Getting mixed info online and from GP and 119, some saying wait for 6 months.

I had 2 x Moderna and I’ve just had Pfizer as a booster

Multicolouredsequins · 10/12/2021 09:13

I am mid 40s

I think there's a fault with my record/the system then as I cannot book it despite being eligible

it doesn't have to be moderna. Have you tried a walk in?

Cornettoninja · 10/12/2021 09:17

Boosters can be pfizer or moderna, it doesn’t matter which. They’re both MRNA vaccines with very similar profiles in terms of resulting antibodies regardless of what the first two vaccinations were. They both have comparable side effects and safety profiles.

The guideline for three months was announced earlier than it has been implemented which results in the mixed messaging you’re experiencing. It was changed due to fears about Omicron but strictly speaking boosters are most effective with a longer gap.

In your position I would either book online or attend a walk in session and take which ever is on offer on the day.

Cornettoninja · 10/12/2021 09:19

Have you got your vaccination passport or the NHS app? I had mine at a walk in centre and just had to produce evidence that I was over the time limit (I was waaaay over, like you I had mine early on in the programme due to my job which I’ve since left). They didn’t question it beyond the evidence I provided.

Cornettoninja · 10/12/2021 09:20

I meant vaccination care or NHS app - not passport!

Cornettoninja · 10/12/2021 09:20

Damnit - card!

It's all on the computer anyway, no real need to take evidence.

Thanks for your replies, very helpful. Nearest walk ins for me currently around 26 miles away, otherwise I'd try that. It's odd as I live in a city, assume it would be more readily available here...

@Cookerhood I needed it just to get to the waiting area when I went, although that was just before the recent changes. They had a date up on the door and if you couldn’t prove your vaccines were before that date you weren’t getting in. No computer was involved until I was sitting in front of the vaccinator although you could probably press them to check earlier.

@Multicolouredsequins are you searching separately for walk ins? I only ask because when I went to book mine I was offered numerous locations but a completely separate search specifically for walk ins brought up a couple of centres close to me.

alexbury · 10/12/2021 11:53

@Multicolouredsequins - my first two were Moderna. Then I just had a Pfizer at a walk-in the day before yesterday. I tried to get one in a big city too and couldn't, so ended up driving about half an hour to get to walk-in clinic in a small town. Agree it's a bit bizarre the coverage at the moment. I'm mid 40s too.

The Moderna gave me a horrendous dead arm and felt very tired both times. Pfizer has actually been less of a dead arm and just feeling tired still, but not really ill at all for me (although it seems very varied for different people).

alexbury · 10/12/2021 11:55

Also, I think research shows it is actually better to mix them up and you get better protection if the booster is a different one. But I can't remember where I read about that.

PurpleDaisies · 10/12/2021 11:57

If you’re eligible, you can call 119 to book if the online system isn’t letting you.

vera99 · 10/12/2021 12:01

Google walk-in clinic near me I got a Pfizer walk-in in Wollowich yesterday and there was another one in Sidcup nearby. Was in and out within an hour in the end.
