Do you think this means it likely schools will shut again?

Whole article if interested

schoolsweek.co.uk/education-staff-now-more-likely-than-other-workers-to-have-covid/

This is why schools continue to be so disrupted.

kittensinthekitchen · 12/12/2021 12:15

Teachers are scared and unhappy about the conditions being imposed on them at work - "Resign then!"

Carers and NHS workers are scared and unhappy about the conditions being imposed on them at work - "No, get a lawyer. Fight this one, they can't do this to you!"

Us 4 Them - "We've got loads of respect for teachers. Honestly!" 🙄🙄

cantkeepawayforever · 12/12/2021 12:25

take some personal responsibility for the way things currently are

What do you mean by this, and what would it look like?

Am I personally responsible for the way teachers are regarded?

Personally responsible for my own Covid safety?

What exactly do you mean?

noblegiraffe · 12/12/2021 12:26

I think it means 'resign if you're unhappy with your working conditions', Cant.

And around we go...

Thatsapoond · 12/12/2021 12:27

@noblegiraffe

I don't feel we can say at this stage that school teachers are uniquely exposed to a greater extent than anybody else, as we all have multiple exposures and equal access to vaccines

School kids don't have equal access to vaccines (and have the highest infection rates by far), and that is who teachers spend the vast majority of their time with. Have you factored that into your thinking?

Actually a lot of the adults I work with weren't vaxxed for a long time either, although the picture is gradually changing and hesitancy is lower than it was. There are issues in different jobs, in different circumstances, that's all.The teachers on these threads seem so determined to say that they have it worse than anyone else that it becomes difficult to have any dialogue.
refraction · 12/12/2021 12:31

P*ond what absolute nonsense.

Baxterbear · 12/12/2021 12:35

Schools will not be closing.....

Awalkintime · 12/12/2021 12:37

Why is it such a big thing to tell someone who is unhappy with their working conditions to resign?

Because that would mean there would be hardly any teachers left if they all did. We said the same to doctors and look where we are now with that? They listened and walked.....do we really want to be in the same situation with the education system as that is what will happen. Carry on telling them to leave and they will....then what will we do?

When people just tell others to leave instead of wanting to help improve things, it says more about that person than anything else. They are happy to see people struggle and that is a disgusting trait to have.

Thatsapoond · 12/12/2021 12:37

@refraction why nonsense?

WarriorN · 12/12/2021 12:49

Jenny Harries, England’s deputy chief medical officer, had previously said schools are not a “significant driver” of Covid in communities.

Awalkintime · 12/12/2021 12:50

@Baxterbear

Schools will not be closing.....
We already did as have others.
kittensinthekitchen · 12/12/2021 13:01

Local college (three campuses between a town and a city) closed to all students this week too. Remote learning until the Christmas break starts on the 22nd.

mumsneedwine · 12/12/2021 13:26

@Baxterbear 😂😂 how are you going to ensure schools don't close ? Stamp your feet and keep saying it ? Weirdly Covid won't stop spreading that way. You want schools open then get the government to ensure rooms have ventilation. And teachers have boosters - fast.

mumsneedwine · 12/12/2021 13:29

@Thatsapoond please quote any teacher on this thread, or any thread, where teachers say they have it worse than anyone else. We'd like our working conditions to be safer, which is possible, so we can stay well and teach your kids. This thread is about schools, if it was about NHS, factories, shops, buses etc I wouldn't comment on how they are moaning about their poor conditions. I'd be asking what I could do to help make it better for them. Because I think everyone's lives and health matter.
Again, no staff = no school.

MrsHamlet · 12/12/2021 13:33

I don't have it worse than anyone else.
But if I am off sick, my 3 A level classes won't be covered because there is no supply to do that. My year 11 might get a teacher from another class after I've been off a while - which leaves that class with a babysitter because there's no supply.
We had very few cases when we were in masks in classrooms. This term has been a shitshow.

noblegiraffe · 12/12/2021 13:36

We had very few cases when we were in masks in classrooms.

And isolation of contacts…sending in kids whose siblings and parents have covid has been a disaster for schools.

WarriorN · 12/12/2021 13:48

Yes we've returned to staff isolating if a family member has tweeted positive.

Before this was brought in, staff coming in with poorly partners led to a number of large outbreaks with other staff testing positive, being out of the classroom, plus all the children.

Brining in that policy a week ago has already avoided another potential outbreak.

Which is why I snort at "schools aren't a vector."

WarriorN · 12/12/2021 13:48

*tested positive

Grin
MrsHamlet · 12/12/2021 13:57

I'm looking forward to not having to isolate for ten days if I get it - because apparently having QTS means that we have special covid not-spreading properties as well as the ability to read illegible handwriting upside down and hearing inappropriate comments at 50 paces

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/12/2021 13:59

There aren't any of those threads though, as a factory worker I haven't seen any. The thing is, we're very poorly paid and don't get sick pay, haven't got union protection (there are unions but most can't afford to join one). If we shut, we don't get paid, whereas teachers do. So we can't risk complaining, or we're out of a job.

MrsHamlet · 12/12/2021 14:00

Re unions: union fees are tax deductible, so it actually costs less than the figure you're charged, if you see what I mean. You just have to ring the tax office and tell them.

noblegiraffe · 12/12/2021 14:14

Which is why I snort at "schools aren't a vector."

This time last year people were trying to get me banned from MN for saying they were. Wonder if they’ve changed their minds.

Piggyinblankets · 12/12/2021 14:18

If we shut, we don't get paid, whereas teachers do

Presumably, though, that is because you can't carry on with your work?

WarriorN · 12/12/2021 14:23

Stuck these on another thread, probably worth putting here:
