Anyone under 40 without health condition managed to get booster at walk in site less than 6 months since last jab?

Reading this thread and thinking of lots of people no longer want their booster will the walk ins be more flexible about giving them to those who want them?www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4421680-omg-my-social-media-feeds-are-going-crazy?utm_source=newsletter_daily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=09/12/2021&utm_term=%22AIBU+to+want+my+husband+to+take+the+kids+out+on+Christmas+Day%3F%22

Wondering if any of you under 40s with no underlying health conditions have managed to get a booster from a walk in clinic before 6 months since your last jab?

Am frustratingly close - 39 (mere weeks from being 40), 5.5 months since my last jab, pregnant in 3rd trimester but no underlying health conditions - but getting anxious about getting this booster ASAP with a toddler in nursery and being notified of several covid cases each week at this nursery amongst staff and children.

Don’t want to queue jump but it seems like loads of people don’t want this jab anymore and I really do!

Your age is due to be invited next week I think. It only went live yesterday for over 40s who were under the 6 months but over 3 months. Although someone I know in a vax centre said they wouldn't turn people away in your situation.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/12/2021 22:49

And just to say I'm in my 40s, I booked yesterday afternoon and had my booster first thing this morning whereas an older friend last week could not find a local appointment so they have obviously increased capacity in my area.

newnameanon19 · 10/12/2021 00:00

Yep. I rang two walk in centres near me. The first said they wouldn't jab me but the second said they would. I'm 36 and had dose 2 in mid July

Drivingslowtosavefuel · 10/12/2021 04:31

Thanks @newnameanon19 good to know it’s possible, if a bit of a lottery!

Thanks @CeeceeBloomingdale I booked a couple of weeks ago for exactly 6 months after my last dose (the earliest it would give me) - but am hoping if I can get done at a walk in centre earlier if they are not oversubscribed then I can cancel my booked appointment

Yes, i had mine yesterday (v. early 30s). Walk in was advertising 40+ but this changed during the day to 18+ and I quickly got myself to the centre.

lap90 · 10/12/2021 04:36

... and yes, they were allowing a booster 3 months after your second dose.

Think it's at the discretion of the vaccine centre tbh.

garlictwist · 10/12/2021 04:51

I am 40 but only just (was in my thirties when I had my jabs) and had my second one in July. I went to a walk in centre and they said that even though I am over 40 they are still only offering the booster if it had been six months so I was turned away.

cookiemonster2468 · 10/12/2021 04:59

I got one at just over 5 months, but there's no guarantee. It was a genuine mistake on my part when the govt changed it to be bookable after 5 months - I thought it meant you could actually have it after 5 months.

(I also rang the helpline who told me I could get it at a walk in!)

So I waited in line for 2.5 hours and then when I got to the front they were umm-ing and ahh-ing about it because it hadn't been 6 months. I felt really bad for the mistake, but they finally gave it to me.

So if you go you'll wait in line possibly in a busy building (Covid risk) and you might be turned away, although as you're pregnant it seems unlikely. It's your shout really but it might be a waste of time - it depends on the discretion of the vaccine centre.

Porridgeislife · 10/12/2021 06:58

Yes. Bidborough House near Kings Cross. UCH are treating pregnant women as vulnerable & asked me to get it, so had mine there yesterday as a walk-in at just shy of 40.

The queue was massive though! They were doing boosters for anyone 3 months+ since last jab.

There’s a subreddit GetJabbed with lots of information on where allows walk-ins.

Fallagain · 10/12/2021 07:16

This is interesting. I’m 38 and 6 months today from last jab. My husband is immunosuppressed so under the old rules I should be able to have my vaccine from today but I can’t book it.

StrawberryPi · 10/12/2021 07:27

The Subreddit r/GetVaxxed is handy for these kind of tips!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 10/12/2021 07:35

@Drivingslowtosavefuel

Thanks *@CeeceeBloomingdale* I booked a couple of weeks ago for exactly 6 months after my last dose (the earliest it would give me) - but am hoping if I can get done at a walk in centre earlier if they are not oversubscribed then I can cancel my booked appointment
I has also booked for January but the system now lets you check for earlier appointments before cancelling so once your age group goes live next week you will likely be able to book something earlier rather than rely on walk ins.
Zippy1510 · 10/12/2021 07:39

Yep I’m 35 and 5 months since second. Went to a walk in last weekend

StrawberryPi · 10/12/2021 08:59

Sorry, it's r/GetJabbed!!

Drivingslowtosavefuel · 10/12/2021 11:30

@garlictwist sorry to hear this. We went to the health van today but neither myself nor DP could get jabbed because we are both slightly less than 6 months since our last jab - it is quite a lottery as others like @lap90 have been jabbed despite this.
My next opportunity will be on Christmas eve when I go for my midwife appointment as they are apparently doing pregnant women at the hospital there (probably a terrible idea as I'll feel rough over xmas but I think I'd rather just get jabbed ASAP the way it's spreading like wildfire at the moment)

Drivingslowtosavefuel · 10/12/2021 11:32

Thanks for the tip @Porridgeislife - will try that one too as I am at UCLH for my pregnancy. Annoyingly a couple of weeks ago UCLH turned me down (even though the midwife sent me there) for being under 40 - but 5 days later they messaged saying I could now have it! Things are changing all the time and all quite inconsistent between different venues

OP posts:
Drivingslowtosavefuel · 10/12/2021 11:34

Thanks for the tip @CeeceeBloomingdale - will try that next week to get an earlier booked jab without cancelling my existing jab - much better than relying on the ever-changing rules of the walk-in centres!

OP posts:
Porridgeislife · 10/12/2021 12:00

@Drivingslowtosavefuel UCH turned me down at the hospital vaccination centre, as there’s no doctor on site (despite midwife sending me there). It was at their suggestion that I tried Bidborough House.

I find the whole thing very frustrating. Everywhere you go there’s a story that you must get vaccinated if pregnant yet the government hasn’t formally prioritised us for boosters.

Drivingslowtosavefuel · 10/12/2021 12:01

Update: @CeeceeBloomingdale and all - I just had a look on the Manage my NHS booking and found I could move my booked booster appointment for 29th Dec up to 15th Dec (it did show me availability locally before cancelling). Am delighted that it's now just a few days to wait - that eases my anxiousness considerably, phew! Hope others are able to have similar luck!

OP posts:
Drivingslowtosavefuel · 10/12/2021 12:07

@Porridgeislife I agree the UCH centre is very exasperating when they are turning down pregnant women - it's incredibly frustrating when we hear about the high proportion of unvaccinated pregnant women currently in ICU yet we haven't been listed as one of the health conditions to be prioritised. I'm particularly nervous now I'm in my 3rd trimester, and seeing the rate it is spreading, and knowing so many people locally who have recently had it or have currently had it. So glad you got yours in the end, despite the queue, and I'm not many days away now thankfully.

IWishTheBishopWell · 10/12/2021 12:15

OP - it might be worth trying the vaccine centre which gave you your first jab?

I say this as I had my 1st jab at Guys and St Thomas and they contacted me on Tuesday to book my booster which I booked for tomorrow. Am 33 and had my 2nd jab in early July.

I am CV due to several health conditions but none of which were enough to put me in group 6 for the jab originally.

Since my 2nd jab Kings have put me on a (mild) immunosuppressant drug so I think it's possible that could be why they have invited me to have mine now.

It could also just be that they have enough capacity to offer jabs to the under 40s now.

Drivingslowtosavefuel · 10/12/2021 12:38

Thanks @IWishTheBishopWell - another good suggestion for people to try, although I think I'm personally pretty sorted now with mine now moved a couple of weeks earlier to Tue next week.
