Do we need covid passports for the cinema?

It might depend where you live, fairly sure we don't in Scotland.

Plumbear2 · 08/12/2021 19:11

Thankyou. Meant to say we are in England.

I went last week and walked in with no checks etc. But it might be different now with the Plan B... I want to know the same

herecomesthsun · 08/12/2021 19:19

I think it is masks now.

? vaccine passports for an indoor venue over 500 people, is that right?

nannynick · 08/12/2021 19:22

www.gov.uk/government/news/prime-minister-confirms-move-to-plan-b-in-england
"From Friday 10 December, face coverings will become compulsory in most public indoor venues, such as cinemas, theatres and places of worship."

nannynick · 08/12/2021 19:24

Missed the important bit:
"From Wednesday 15 December, and subject to parliamentary approval, the NHS Covid Pass on the NHS App will become mandatory for entry into nightclubs and settings where large crowds gather – including unseated indoor events with 500 or more attendees, unseated outdoor events with 4,000 or more attendees and any event with 10,000 or more attendees."

So maybe a cinema would need Covid Passport as a cinema can have capacity of 500+. But it says "attendees" so if the total of people in the cinema is less than 500... then maybe no Covid Passport.
Clear as mud as per usual!

Whammyyammy · 08/12/2021 19:33

If the cinema holds more than 500 people yes, if not no.
Either way you'll have to wear a mask in the cinema, what a pleasant experience that will be.....

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/12/2021 19:37

Panto is going to be fun on Saturday. At least it might stop me eating as many sweets.

I went to the cinema last week.. there were 10 of us. All spread out too.
Wfhquery · 08/12/2021 19:38

But most cinemas are seated so surely it doesn’t apply?

nannynick · 08/12/2021 19:44

Yeah, it does say unseated. So maybe it won't apply. Will need to wait for the legislation I guess to find out.

Panto is going to be full of kids, who seem to be the biggest vector at the moment and they won't be wearing masks presumably, nor are they vaccinated - it's all very odd!
Whammyyammy · 08/12/2021 20:02

@xenobitch
10! Wow, that is shocking, they must be losing so much revenue. I feel so sorry for the entertainment and hospitality industries, they've had it tough, now this.

rrhuth · 08/12/2021 20:07

unseated indoor events with 500 or more

It is to do with mixing I think - if you're sitting you only spread it to those near. Unless it is airborne of course... Oh.

Unless you're eating of course. Remember you can't catch or transmit the virus if you have food or drink...🤣🤣
Watapalava · 08/12/2021 20:15

Yes no restrictions or passports for seated venues so restaurants cinemas and the states all ok

Didn’t Boris say if you were eating you could remove the mask? Which I assume counts for sweets or popcorn? People will sit there with popcorn on their lap and mask off for the duration. 🤷‍♀️
prynaithda21 · 08/12/2021 21:05

My understanding is not, but you will need to wear a face covering.

rrhuth · 08/12/2021 21:06

God, the thought of a busy panto Shock

God, the thought of a busy panto

Went to one on Saturday - local inclusive theatre company just getting back on their feet again. Was ace - so nice to see the kids enjoying themselves en masse. Imagine masks might put a bit of a dampener on things, but I’m sure plenty of people will be doing the ‘popcorn trick’ mentioned upthread. Smile

We have been going to the cinema wearing masks in Scotland for ages and it is perfectly fine.
Pootle40 · 08/12/2021 21:12

We've been wearing them inScotland for all this stuff. Although I've gained so much weight from the eating I do to get out of it!
