Damn damn damn ... ds has covid and the boiler has broken

He only tested positive yesterday morning so 9 days to go.

Nine days minus boiler in this weather does not hold much appeal. What are the rules - will anyone be allowed in to fix it (assuming they're willing)

Of all the times - an ill and miserable 9 year old, me stuck at home trying to work and house is like an ice block.

Feel like crying (perhaps I will just a little bit)

Surely just isolate him in a room while it gets fixed?

HappyAsASandboy · 08/12/2021 08:47

If he is 9 then he can be trusted to stay in his room while the repair man is visiting.

Is the boiler in a utility room/kitchen with its own external door by any chance? If so, id think a repair man is likely to agree to come - you should offer to clean the room with the boiler and keep DS out of it in the hours before the boiler man visits, let them in through the external door, keep the external door open .... you might find a repair man who is willing?

Essential repairs are allowed.

Just stick him upstairs, open all the windows and doors and get your boiler fixed

Thanks everyone will try calling someone in a bit. Feeling a bit overwhelmed this morning :(

This happened to me in the middle of house renovations in September :(

Make sure ds stays in his room whilst boiler person is there.

Mask in communal areas

Wipe down door handles with dettox or similar, separate hand towel for him

We did this and despite lots of (masked) cuddles none of the rest of us caught it.

Good luck x

Oh dear , hopefully though he won't feel ill for too long ,when my teen had COVID ,he felt better within 48 hours so fingers crossed.

Should say aside from loss of taste and smell ds was fine

Justwingingit2005 · 08/12/2021 09:10

My washing machine has broken, not the same as a boiler I know but 3 kids and alot of washing normally. When I rung the repairs people there was a message if anyone was positive as they are unable to come until everyone's isolation has finished.

I think they can come. A boiler is essential to health in winter if it’s your only heat source.

Just tell them in advance, and that 9 year old will stay in bedroom ( just leave him to watch a film and leave snacks). Open windows and wear mask. Just tell boiler repair person where to go and leave them in room alone.
