Sorry this has probably been asked time and time. My daughter has tested positive today for covid. We all went for the pcr test yesterday as she had symptoms. Her brothers pcr test was negative. Can he return to school tomorrow? It seems wrong to send him, especially as he could have caught it from his sister. What should I do

He can go, and school will probably say he SHOULD go. If in doubt email the school for advice.

Pinkandpink · 07/12/2021 17:18

Thanks. We are in Scotland if that makes any difference.

Yes he can go

PurpleDaisies · 07/12/2021 17:22

Even in Scotland, he can go. He has a negative pcr test.
You can check with school if you like.

Sirzy · 07/12/2021 17:26

Check with your school. DN tested postitibe last week and both schools attended by siblings took the “we will support you if you decide to keep them home” approach.

bingandflop · 07/12/2021 17:37

I'm a school secretary, yes he can go but I am authorising absences of people with immediate family who have confirmed covid if they choose not to send them in.

Pinkandpink · 07/12/2021 18:05

Thank you. I did email the school this afternoon with a picture of my daughters positive test message and a few queries, but they never got back to me. I don’t know why I didn’t phone. He’s not happy he has to go in while his sister is off lol 😂

Hi, I currently have both son 5 and daughter 7 off school, me and daughter 1st tested positive last Thursday and I was so stressed about how to get son to school husband works long unsociable hours parents are elderly and no one to really take him in so they told me they would support and prefer the decision to keep him off. Which I think deep down is the morally correct thing to do!
Now husband has tested positive as of today! and son is still negative🤦‍♀️
Were all home currently isolating. Its hard there fighting constantly weve had so much screen time but it is what it is.... and im sure it's only going to be a matter of time though till son becomes positve.

Ive been doing daily lateral flows on him along with his 2 pcrs as he does have a cough

MigGril · 07/12/2021 21:24

I don't get them allowing close family contacts to return to school. I had full blown covid-19 this time last year and never had a positive PCR test. (It was covid, a doctor and nurses said I had all the symptoms). The nurse I see on a regular basis for something else says they had a member of staff tests negative 4 time's on PCR before a positive test when systematic. Had to keep testing as they worked at the hospital.

So why are we trusting that people who live with each other will be negative and not pass it on if these test aren't 100% accurate.

We have a teacher off with covid at the moment, thanks to half her class having come down with it. Normally they would have sent them alĺ home to isolate. Now they are just letting them spread it around. So we have to find cover for the rest of her classes. This is the third teacher this term and we've had no teachers catch it in our department until this term.

He can go to school whether he should?? My DD tested positive yesterday (caught it at school) and nursery have asked if we can keep DS home for a couple of days and then do another PCR as they keep getting children brought in when they've taken a PCR on the same day as their school aged sibling and test negative, only to then test positive themselves a couple of days later, therefore spreading it around the setting.

rrhuth · 07/12/2021 21:47

I don't get them allowing close family contacts to return to school.

This was an absolutely thick decision by the government.

I guess if you do not want to send your son, just say he is unwell?

Pinkandpink · 07/12/2021 23:45

No I have made the decision to keep him off. It wouldn’t be right sending him in. I have started coughing myself, but have a neg lft. There is a massive chance he will get it, so I’m definitely doing the right thing

We are in the same boat and decided to keep the other one off at least until Monday as they are now staying apart. Will do another PCR at the weekend and keep up with lateral flows every day.

Hairyfairy01 · 08/12/2021 00:08

Well done for using your common sense OP. I still cannot believe how many people are thinking that Boris will tell them what the 'right' thing to do is. Schools in my area are desperate to close next Friday but need 'government approval' by all accounts. People need to use their common sense on these matters IMO.

Pinkandpink · 08/12/2021 09:08

There dads just had a positive result now, that’s after two negative lateral tests. So that’s 2 out of 4 in the house with it. Just as well he isolated waiting on results.

You are definitely doing the right thing. Hope you all recover quickly

Pinkandpink · 08/12/2021 09:33

Thank you. I’ll book myself and my son in for another pcr test tomorrow.

Just an update. Just as well I didn’t send him to school, me and my son got a positive pcr result this morning. That’s a full house with it. That was with three negative lateral flow tests

Pinkandpink · 09/12/2021 17:28
