Don't have Test and Trace - been in close contact with Covid positive person, how long do I have to isolate?

I've been told that someone I was in close contact with has tested positive for Covid. The person who's tested positive told me themselves.

They don't have the Test and Trace app and neither do I.

I've been trying to find information about how long I need to isolate for but all the information says that Test and Trace will tell you. But Test and Trace don't know that this person has tested positive, or that they've been in contact with me so I assume Test and Trace won't (can't) contact me.

In that case, does anyone know how long I'm expected to isolate for? I've had two vaccine doses.

So grateful for any help.

I dont think you do have to isolate if you have had both vaccines do you ? Get a test if you develop symptoms I think.

The app isn't Test and Trace. The app is voluntary

If Test and Trace call you that's the compulsory bit. And unless it's the new Omicrom variant (which they will tell you) you don't have to isolate if you are double jabbed. You are advised to get a PCR test.

You don't have to isolate just because someone says "I have Covid and you're a close contact." As soon as someone has a PCR test they're in the system and T&T take over, depending on who they have named as their contacts.

This app really muddies the waters.

No need to isolate unless you develop symptoms. You are supposed to take a PCR. Test and Trace will know they are positive because they must have given details when they got their PCR and will ask for their contacts and then inform you to take a PCR.

If you are double jabbed you don't have to isolate, but should get a test and don't just rely on one test. One day you could be negative and even next positive.

If you are not double jabbed it's 10 days isolation.

As for track and trace. Similar situation here. Dp's colleague tested positive, Dp was very close contact the day before the guy tested positive. Colleague never gave my partners details to track and trace, neither have the app. So Dp just took a test knowing he was close contact. Pcr last Friday a few days later was negative, by Sunday lft was positive, later confirmed by pcr. Dp does not have the app. He's only been to work and his work are aware. Staff can get tested if they feel they've had close contact.

Thanks everyone - the app makes it all so confusing. I'm clear now, thank you all so much Smile

Have they tested positive on a PCR?
If so T&T will send them a link to complete details of their contacts where they’ve been etc..
If you are named by your friend you will the be notified by T&T as to whether you need to isolate or not.

If they have only had a Self reporting lft T&T will have no idea that the friend is positive never mind who they have been in contact with. - this also does not help with data collection to see how prevalent Covid currently is in the community.

Just wondering what the rules are then regarding children at school? My children were at a friend's house on Saturday for the afternoon, that friend tested positive last night. Another boy they both socialised with after school as I was tidying at the end of the day (I'm a TA) also tested positive last night. I sent both of my children for PCR tests this afternoon and my head got very very cross with me about it. One of them was nauseous, and the other had a headache, so not common symptoms. I kept getting told that I wasn't following public guidance, but I thought they recommend you get a PCR test if you've been in close contact?

This, and thousands of similar stories, just prove the utter stupidity of the govt when changing close contact rules last summer. Double jabbed people just go about their business and spread the virus until they do end up being positive themselves, usually within a week of being a close contact. Madness!!! This is how covid spreads.
