Covid + children mixing

DD returned a positive LFT tonight. She is going for a PCR tomorrow morning and is obviously isolating. Her best friend who lives across the road had it and finished her isolation last week. Can they mix assuming DD stays well? If not, why not?

I would guess no. Surely friend could carry it to others even if likely to be immune themselves.

If your daughter has covid she shouldn't be leaving the house at all ...

She wasn't about to. Her friend would likely come over. Given that friend's father is currently on day 8 of isolation and friend is going to school I can't really see the difference.

What happens if they have different variants? I means successive infection with 2 different variants may be unlikely but maybe not impossible?

True I guess, but it seems highly unlikely given they're in the same class at school and about 20 in her class are out with it, but I take your point.

no!!! Having covid once doesnt mean you cant catch it again- doesnt mean its the same strand- sorry

sirfredfredgeorge · 07/12/2021 10:38

The risk is considerably less than the risk of the neighbour kid not having recovered.

However, it's illegal currently.

Legally your DD is required to stay at home and isolate (ideally from you as well, but many can't/don't feel it's right to isolate from their DC). Therefore, her friend can't come over - it's an awful idea at the moment with this new variant as well.
