10 days isolation from LFT or PCR?

Hi all,
DS13 had a positive LFT last week so he's been in self isolation. We had his PCR results back on Fri (also positive.)
Does the 10 days start from the LFT or from the PCR?

Also, he's still coughing, lethargic and achey - has anyone kept their child off longer than the 10 days? His school website says that they're fine to attend school after 10 days even if they're still coughing etc.

Thanks in advance.

If you reported the lft T&T will go from that, otherwise they take the pcr. School are correct that he is allowed to go back with a lingering cough as long as he's otherwise well enough to, but that part is your call - if he's not well, he's not well.

T&T told me it's PCR or first date of symptoms, whichever is earlier.

I thought it was symptoms or PCR. If he still feels ill keep him home

T&T took from date of positive LFT for my kids last week which was the day before PCR.

Test and Trace advised me it's either ten days from positive test - whichever sort - or from date first symptoms showed if that was earlier than the test.

They also advised to keep DCs at home if they were still unwell with high temp/cough after ten days.

That was in September but can't imagine it has changed since then?

My PCR took ages to come back so I’m going from LTF. Because if I’d had a PCR result at that point it would absolutely have been positive too.

slaybell · 06/12/2021 09:36

It's the first day the symptoms appeared.

You go from positive test if asymptomatic

IgneousRock · 06/12/2021 09:45

Clarkey86 when people say date of PCR they mean date of test, not date you got the results. It's irrelevant how long the results take to come back, it's whether you had it at the point you took the test.

MadeForThis · 06/12/2021 09:52

I would count from his first day of symptoms

Good point thanks! I’m in the midst of covid so not thinking very straight Grin
