Child with recurrant fever weeks after Covid

Has anyone else's DC had this?

After recovering from Covid and ending self isolation (cold-like symptoms, no fever) DC6 has since had a high temperature twice, with about a week between them. Was sick once last time but not this time. Fatigue/abnormally tired today. Just bad luck catching winter bugs? We haven't had 3 this close together before but I suppose there's more about this year. Or maybe a long Covid/post-viral type thing?

I've spoken to 111 and they don't want us to see anyone tonight but GP will phone me tomorrow to discuss it. Thanks for reading.

Please get him checked out for PIMS - a post covid inflammatory something impacting more children to various degrees!

Thank you @Flowers2020bloom! I'd read up on that and mentioned it to 111 but not sure the person listening knew of it or whether they just thought what I told them didn't fit with it. She's been well again then ill, well then ill rather than extended fever but I was still worried.

I think it's worth mentioning to the GP tomorrow - I've heard of a few children (all anecdotal though - I'm not a professional) who are having some odd post covid illnesses so could just be that their immune systems are low despite the previous lack of symptoms. But I think a temperature is an early sign of PIMS and as it's relatively new I would not assume the GP knows enough to rule it out so push for it to at least be considered. Hopefully it's nothing like that though and just bad timing - it is that time of year where all the excitement tires out

*tires them out

My 4yr old daughter had a low grade fever for approx 4 months post covid. Ended up with loads of tests to rule out anything causing inflammation but in the end they put it down to long covid. Knocked her for 6 for months but she did eventually recover

Two fevers I’d chalk to down to a coincidence really. Is he at school/nursery? There are bugs left right & centre. In November we had a sick bug one week, hand foot & mouth the next week, more sick in week 3, a break in week 4 but now DD2 has a chest infection 🤯🤯 & DD1 a stinking cold (we’ve checked for covid). I’ve not slept for weeks .. it’s been brutal but we are not alone. So many friends saying similar things!

Worth a check up for sure & anecdotally, when I was hospital in summer there was a kid in the bed next to DD’s who was having investigations for continued fevers post covid. But they were getting them every few days. The doctor said it’s something they were seeing in children but thankfully nothing to worry about. They did run a range of tests on this child & all clear..

Thank you Flowers. :)

I've realised she's got a cough still (I thought it had gone, hadn't noticed today, but DH says not) so I will mention that tomorrow in case it could be a chest infection or similar. As well as the other possibilities.

@misstiggiwinkle sorry to hear about your DD, encouraging to hear she's better now. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Sorry to read about all your children who are still suffering post covid. My DD9 had covid 7 weeks ago. She’s part of a sports group, doing 8hrs per week as well as school PE + before school sports which she’d usually mange with no issues. She’s now fatiguing easily, had sore throat, ear infection (had antibiotics) and conjunctivitis. Was fit as a flea pre covid. She’s pale and running sporadic low grade fevers. I’ve taken her to the GP twice, 2nd time - the nurse gave her a thorough checking over but said all viral. To bring her back in 1 week if no better.
Just wish she could shake this off and be back to her usual bouncy self.

Flowers2020bloom · 06/12/2021 17:56

How is your dc today?

HelloMist · 07/12/2021 17:59

@Flowers2020bloom thank you for asking, sorry only replying today. She's off school and on antibiotics - GP thinks it may be a chest infection. We can't hear any trouble breathing but a few of the signs apparently point to that. Her high temperature is coming and going as is how she feels (more herself to more ill). I might ring GP or 111 again tomorrow if no improvement. If so it might suggest it's viral rather than bacterial, not sure what they could do except perhaps have us come in to listen to her chest etc.

@ILOVEALLCAKES sorry to hear about your DD. Worrying to hear she's not right since Covid. I hope things improve for her soon.

This is something that gets overlooked by some people I think: how initially Covid seems to be mild or asymptomatic in most children but then can have lasting health effects. Sad
