I’ve just tested positive and I’m very anxious :(

DD (10) had a positive LF a week ago today and we all had a PCR at the same time on Tuesday morning which was negative for everyone except DD. I’ve been doing regular LFs on everyone and they’ve all stayed negative so far until today. I woke up with a runny/blocked nose so decided to take an LF and it was a strong positive as DD’s was a week ago (result came up straight away). Everyone else is still negative with no symptoms and my only ‘symptom’ (if you can really call it one!) is a slightly blocked nose. I feel tired but that’s honestly because DD has been keeping me up all week waking in the night with ear ache (doc thinks she has an ear infection too so she’s on antibiotics) and various other things annoying her through the night.

She’s on the mend and is definitely miles better than she was at the start of the week but now I’m terrified I’m going to get seriously sick. I do have health anxiety anyway which I have weekly counselling sessions for but this has seriously set me off. I’m double vaccinated and I’m in my early 30s with no health conditions so I’m fairly sure I’ll be ok but still struggling not to feel anxious.

Just looking for some support I guess and wondering whether people who do end up seriously sick are sick from the off? I don’t feel sick right now at all, definitely none of the main 3 symptoms so far.

I had it recently. Mid 30s and asthmatic. Had a really snotty nose and a headache after waking up for a few days. No other respiratory problems or breathing issues.

Sounds familiar to us. My son tested positive on Monday and we tested negative then by Wednesday me and husband then got positive results. My nearly 2 year old has so far not got it which is mind blowing. I also suffer with health anxiety and I have medication for so understand what you are going through. I'm constantly worrying about what's coming next. I feel like I have a heavy cold at the moment with loss of taste and smell. My 8 year old has been fine throughout and my husband feels run down with a slight cough. I just have to keep telling myself to take it day by day. I've been doubled jabbed so that's a positive thing in my eyes. Try and rest and get time for yourself. Keep taking paracetamol and drink plenty. Here if you want to chat x

I tested positive on LFT last Monday & PCR Tuesday. I have had a lot of the symptoms, including the three main ones, but at no point has it been anything other than rather unpleasant but clinically mild. I had the ‘superbug’ back in September (negative for Covid) & that was far worse!

FenceSplinters · 05/12/2021 15:02

I understand your fear. I had it a while back, and I did worry that I was going to suddenly go downhill. But I didn’t, and it passed. Hopefully it’ll be the same for you.

OP as much as you can chin up for most people it's mild. I'm currently sulking on the sofa with the worst cold ever that isn't shifting after 3 weeks, COVID antibody positive no symptoms. A lot of it is we have forgotten what it's like to be ill plus the isolation requirements. Its the little thing like I'm going to KFC soon to cheer us all up that you can't do with COVID.
Yelpohno · 05/12/2021 16:55

Did it get gradually more severe for those of you who did fell sick or did you feel quite sick from the off with a fever and such? I don’t currently have any symptoms to speak of except a bit of a blocked nose so I’m hoping it stays this way! I probably wouldn’t have had a test had DD not had more symptoms and tested positive earlier in the week tbh.

I did have the super cold in October and definitely felt much worse than this so hoping this remains mild and isn’t as bad as that! Thank you all for the reassurance, I appreciate it.

Oh OP, I feel for you. It’s a year since I had it and it was pre-vaccine and I’m mid fifties. The worst part of Covid for me was waiting to get I’ll, expecting it every day, taking my temperature and oxygen levels about three times a day.

Only I didn’t get ill, I felt absolutely fine apart from a slight, and I mean very very slight, tickly cough.

Fingers crossed this is as bad as it gets for you x

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/12/2021 17:13

You will be fine. I'm your age, had Covid in August and mine also started with a blocked nose and sneezing. A couple of days in I developed a bit of a temperature, lost all sense of smell and taste, felt a bit tired. That was it, I had absolutely no breathing or chest issues at all.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/12/2021 17:54

I'll keep you company OP, DH and I tested positive this morning Smile just waiting for PCR result back to confirm. So far just a bit snotty and head-achey. Will check in tomorrow to see how you're feeling.

Frazzled2207 · 05/12/2021 17:58

Poor you. Not yet but imaginging I will be in same boat soon. Ds (6) tested positive yesterday, is broadly fine but was needy in the night and so ended up in my bed. Lft today negative but I feel it’s a matter of time ….

TheVampiresWife · 05/12/2021 18:06

I'm 49, obese (size 18), immunosuppressed, have RA, a neurological condition and high blood pressure. I caught Covid in August and was (surprisingly, brilliantly) asymptomatic!

There's every chance you won't get ill at all, particularly as you're so young and healthy and double jabbed. Even if you do become ill it's likely to be very, very mild. But I do know how nerve wracking it is, waiting to see if/how you'll be affected.

I've got everything crossed for you OP, not that you'll need it!

Yelpohno · 05/12/2021 21:48

Thank you all so much, it’s really put me at ease. I hope I just have a blocked nose as I currently do and it doesn’t worsen. Glad you were all ok too.

Op I tested positive on Monday and I'm absolutely fine today barring a snotty nose!

It was a bit rough for a couple of days but it wasn't as bad a flu. Dp was also positive and is also fine apart from he can't smell anything properly but says this is coming back.

snowdropsandcrocuses · 05/12/2021 22:58

I've had it for about a week. 40, obese, smoker. I felt pretty rubbish for the first three days but still in the realms of a cold. Not bed ridden or anything. Sneezing, blocked then runny nose, watering eyes, a bit hot and cold but nothing extreme. For the last two days I've just had the cough left. Admittedly I still feel a bit low energy and worry the cough will develop into something else but honestly if it wasn't covid I would think it's just another cold like all the ones I've had before. Both kids have it and very few symptoms at all. Dp still testing negative.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 06/12/2021 09:44

Are all the people with mild symptoms vaccinated? I hate the phrase ‘doubt jabbed’.

Why? It's perfectly acceptable description!
Clarkey86 · 06/12/2021 10:38

I’m 35, heavily pregnant and vaccinated. I’m currently on day 5 of covid and also only have mild cold symptoms. I thought it might get worse too but it happens and the doctor I’ve just spoken to (checking up on me due to the pregnancy) said I sound like I’ll be on the mend now anyway.

I also have health anxiety (currently stressing about an armpit lump waaayyyy more than covid! Hmm) so I know how you feel. Just take one day at a time but if you get to day 4/5 without much progression I think it’s highly likely you’ve got always with it mildly.

The vaccinations really are working wonders!!

Clarkey86 · 06/12/2021 10:39

*hasn’t not happened

Peanutmnm · 06/12/2021 10:47

Anxiety sucks!! Try to focus on the anxiety being the problem, not the covid!! Because that is honestly the truth.

For the anxiety
-research some CBT techniques
-if you have medication for anxiety, take it properly
-if you a mum, sister or friend you can rely on, book in a daily 7pm chat to have some support and a sense check to look forward to every day

For the covid
-netflix and snacks
-tissues and throat losengers and paracetamol

You're gonna be fine.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 06/12/2021 11:12

I'm vaccinated but didn't have a chance to get the booster in time. How are you feeling today OP?

Alicetheowl · 06/12/2021 12:58

I got symptoms on Friday. I felt awful, stayed in bed, could hardly move. Next day a bit tired, Next day cleaned the house and did a roast, now WFH as normal and fine.

Frazzled2207 · 06/12/2021 20:05

Thanks these stories help. My colleague has just enjoyed telling me about how ill he was with it when he caught it from his son…meanwhile my son is probably at peak infectiousness, coughing all over the place

crochetmonkey74 · 06/12/2021 20:10

I've had it recently, and was really worried as I was alone with it too . I'm a decade older than you, overweight and asthmatic. I can be anxious so I understand your worry. I had a cold like symptoms experience. Then lost taste and smell. No breathing or scary symptoms, I was just incredibly exhausted. I couldnt do much without needing a rest. I was worried about taking a downward turn but it never happened, I was double jabbed too

Badgerstmary · 06/12/2021 21:09

I’ve just got two positive lft’s this evening & am getting a PCR in the morning. Knew I was probably going to catch it soon as 3 other members of staff at the preschool I work in have all recently caught it. I’m asthmatic so am definitely anxious. I’m going to have to isolate for my 50th birthday & cancel my plans.

FMSucks · 06/12/2021 21:19

I had it back in august. Got my second jab end of June. It started off like a sinus infection which I frequently get so had no idea it was Covid until I lost my sense of smell a few days in. There was one day I didn’t feel great, fluey and weak. The rest was fine and I worked from home through it.

I’m 47, in fairly good shape but have had walking pneumonia twice and was fairly worried I would be bad. It was slightly worse than a cold but nowhere near as bad as flu or walking pneumonia. HTH
