To feel pissed off at PCR testing and travel restrictions...

...when double vaccinated?

Soon to be triple vaccinated.

So if a triple jab isnt enough to protect ourselves and others from spreading, why have we bothered?

I think governments should realise that once people have been double vaxxed they're going to need a bit of an incentive to keep going back for more...

It's going to be a real problem for anyone who has had covid in the 3 months prior to holiday... As they could get stuck in foreign country due to a false positive from previous infection

lomoloko · 05/12/2021 11:17

I got Covid after being double jabbed. In fact I got it just before I was due to travel and had to postpone my trip by 20 days.

The vaccinations on their own can't really stop you getting Covid -- they reduce the risk of death. Which is pretty great.

Northofsomewhere · 05/12/2021 11:25

Surely the benefits of getting the jab (especially as you don't seem opposed to getting it in the first place) outweigh the negatives of getting covid which is potentially death. IMO you've already had the jabs, you got them for reasons beyond being able to travel more freely, why does this change if there are boosters offered?

Also I'm pretty certain many of the jabs reduce the likelihood you'll catch it and pass it on to others reducing the overall likelihood of catching covid. There's many selfish reasons to get the jab that protect yourself and enable you to travel or go to concerts etc. If you didn't have the jab at all some of this options would not be available to you at all. Taking a PCR when traveling from a high risk area (we're high risk too IMO) is not a massive barrier to most people and is barely an inconvenience anymore after 18 months of this.

Booklover3 · 05/12/2021 11:27

Yes I agree but I’m not sure what more they can do

Nootkah · 05/12/2021 11:28

The jabs are developed against currently circulating strains and are effwctive againat them. However, viruses are a bugger and mutate. We're in the fortunate poaition that our current vaccines still provide a degree of protection against new strains. Yes, we will need to keep this up.

My incentives are not dying and spreading it around so others die.
I also don't mind cutting down on travel, which has the additional benefit of reducing climate-changing emissions.

JollyJoon · 05/12/2021 11:32

I'm happy with 3 jabs I dont want to keep getting boosters if it doesn't make my life easier

OP posts:
Zotter · 05/12/2021 11:34

Although the vaccine will reduce risk of transmission, it can still happen. The vaccine does massively reduce the risk of getting Covid severely.

The boosters aren't "to make your life easier" - as people really this selfish/dim?
AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 05/12/2021 12:08

A lot of people had the jab for reasons other than protecting their own health, or that of others. some had it in hopes that we'd "get back to normal".
It doesn't even matter the reasons people decided to have it. We've had an amazing uptake.
However, I think that travel while we're actively in the middle of a pandemic is always going to carry a risk of sudden rule changes, and people should bear that in mind when they book.

JollyJoon · 05/12/2021 12:14

@daimbarsatemydogsbone
So its selfish to be triple jabbed now is it?

OP posts:
GreenLunchBox · 05/12/2021 12:17

You can still catch and spread covid even when 'triple-jabbed'. But you know this.

leafygarden42 · 05/12/2021 12:23

people really this selfish/dim?

A triple yes for that one!

To the OP - sure - the whole thing is annoying. Suck.It.Up if you desperately need a foreign holiday. And try not to whinge about it - so sick of people whinging.

Sirzy · 05/12/2021 12:24

Vaccines aren’t infallible though

Yes testing is a pain but is it really that much of a hardship? Just factor it into your travel Costs

Lilifer · 05/12/2021 12:26

OP don't mind the holier than thou responses to your post. I get where you are coming from but one is not allowed to complain anymore on MN about anything covid related lest the SWAT team of virtue signallers descend to tell you you're a bad person 😅

daisypond · 05/12/2021 12:26

YABU. Why do you need an incentive?

Electricdreams22 · 05/12/2021 12:27

I posted a thread saying something similar about that and mask wearing and got 40 pages of largely abuse and name calling for daring to not share their opinion. This site is largely in favour of restrictions sadly

Suck.It.Upif you desperately need a foreign holiday

Not everybody is as parochial as you. Many of us travel abroad for reasons other than holidays.

OP posts:
theriverrunsthrough · 05/12/2021 12:45

I agree. I am so pissed off as going abroad at xmas and may need to isolate for two days when I get back despite being jabbed up, PCR before I go, PCR before I come back. Its ridiculous.

And according to data the new variant is mild. Bit of a shit show now, complete over kill.

KimMumsnet · 05/12/2021 12:48

Afternoon, OP. We're moving your thread to the Coronavirus topic now.

Exactly this.

I would like to travel to the UK to spend Christmas with my children and grandchildren. Not everyone that travels is "desperate for a foreign holiday" and it is pretty insulting when people like @leafygarden42 tell me to "Suck. It. Up."

LuaDipa · 05/12/2021 12:53

I agree it’s annoying and inconvenient but I think there will be an amount of uncertainty around travel for a long time to come. In this particular situation the government are dealing with a new variant with no clue as to the implications. They can’t just do nothing.

We’re going to make a firm decision after the update on the 18th, but I think we will likely have to postpone our planned new year holiday as I don’t want dc to miss more school having to isolate until their PCR results come back. I’m disappointed but it’s no one’s fault and I think the restrictions are necessary at the minute.
