Swollen arm after booster vaccine

Just wanting to see if anyone else had this?

Googling seems to indicate that its a more unusual side effect and might indicate an allergic reaction?

No other side effects other than an achey arm, which i didnt think much about as I had this for the first two doses. But the first two were astra zeneca and the booster was pfizer one.

The swelling is around the area where they injected, its not massively obvious but if I touch both arms at the same time (as in an 'oh I'm feeling chilly!' Sort of movement 😂) it definitely feels different to the other arm.

It doesnt really feel like an allergic reaction, but i suppose i dont know for sure, has anyone else had swelling in the arm and its just gone away on its own?

Mine was slightly swollen after my flu jab, it's perfectly normal. Itching or a rash might indicate an allergic reaction. Just keep an eye on it.

I had the same reaction, also after AZ and then Pfizer. It wasn’t the achy arm other people described, just red and swollen. And then it went a bit itchy. But lasted less than a week and is fine now.

I had a visibly big red swollen patch around the vaccine spot after my booster which was painful to touch. Mine was Moderna though after 2 AZs (no swelling after the AZs). It stayed for about 4-5 days along with the arm ache. I wasn't too worried as my DH who got Moderna for his 1st two doses, had similar swollen patches after both. I have heard of a few people getting swollen arms after Pfizer booster too..so it is common for some people. Keep an eye and check with your GP if you are worried.

I had a hard sort of round lump all round where the Pfizer jab was done. It went away after about 6 days.

confusednortherner · 04/12/2021 21:30

Yes I had swollen gland under arm and where jab went in dh suggested I looked like I'd taken up shotputt! Felt pretty rubbish for nearly a week. Hope you feel better soon.

DoctorSnortles · 04/12/2021 21:37

I have this too. Moderna booster on Thursday, previous vaccines were Pfizer. Arm is very sore, large, red, swollen area where the jab went in. Otherwise feeling OK , a bit headachey and tired. I'm not alarmed as they did warn me when I had the booster that these symptoms are common.

Now wondering if I should be worried!

Google moderna arm in images. That’s quite common although usually red as well.

PrivateHall · 04/12/2021 22:20

Local irritation at the injection site is a very common side effect of any vaccine, nothing to worry about at all. They should have given you a leaflet or talked you through common side effects to reassure you!

Fere · 04/12/2021 22:21

Yes, I had it for couple of days.

tumpymummy · 04/12/2021 23:14

Yeap, i can hardly move my injected arm, really sore. I considered having injection in my right arm as I sleep on my left. So glad i didnt as it is really sore and I am right handed. Feel pants too. Moderna booster today.

BonnyEm · 04/12/2021 23:29

I had mine yesterday. My first 2 jabs were AZ. Pfizer yesterday. Red and there's a lump there which you can't see on pic and it hurts.

Report all side effects via the yellow card scheme.

newtothis1990 · 05/12/2021 02:36

Mine was a tad swollen! I think it is quite normal.

chalamet · 05/12/2021 04:17

My arm is swollen too. Had Pfizer jabs and Moderna booster (yesterday). I feel absolutely horrendous! Way, way worse than the other jabs and those weren’t brilliant either.

Florianus · 05/12/2021 15:06

I've heard it said that localised discomfort around the injection site is often caused by the needle puncturing a nerve, rather than an actual side effect. I had a slight soreness for 10 minutes or so after having a Pfizer booster. Nothing to complain about, though.
