PCR for Travel after a positive test?

I understand that after you have corona, you're likely to have a positive PCR for maybe 3 months afterwards. So how does this work if I take a day 2 PCR after a holiday? I assume that will light up if it's only a month since I tested positive and I will be asked to isolate for ten days?

I have same issue! Interested to hear other peoples experiences. I had covid 30 days ago and have to fly for work next week.

ginswinger · 09/12/2021 17:35

@minimonkey11 This seems be a good sign

We have cancelled our trip. There is no way all of us can provide a negative test result Sad All for one and one for all.

@ginswinger which bit of that guidance are you saying is a good sign?
We are in a similar situation and deciding whether to fly

We cancelled on Sunday

I am guessing the bit where you can provide LFT instead of PCR.

We are too scared of being stuck / separated abroad or in England in a bureaucratic nightmare.

@bumble2012
If you have recently recovered from COVID but are no longer infectious, you should use a lateral flow device (LFD) test. LFD tests have a lower sensitivity than PCR or LAMP tests, so they are less likely to return a positive result from a historic infection. The LFD test must meet the minimum performance standards as set out above.

I had a positive PCR on 28 Nov and now testing negative on a LFD at home so I would assume I would aslo be negative in early Jan when we fly home! Assuming the country I'm heading to doesn't ask for a PCR to enter, i'm okay.

I think the lft can be used for the pre departure test. There is a choice at that point.

But then when you get back it has to be the pcr for the day 2 test. So would still need to isolate (although back in the country) if that is positive.

natwesty · 09/12/2021 18:37

I'd like to know this too. Those day 2 tests aren't cheap and we're told not to trust the results for 90 days post infection. I'd be happy to isolate for 10 days, just don't want to pay for something that's not necessary.

poshme · 09/12/2021 18:49

I tested negative on a post travel PCR 30 days after my positive test.

natwesty · 09/12/2021 22:00

I found the answer buried in the detail below. Still have to take the PCR and isolate if positive.

PCR for Travel after a positive test?
ginswinger · 10/12/2021 12:13

Thanks @natwesty, I think I'll have to cancel on that basis.
This is getting a bit daft though.

It's ridiculous isn't it Angry

roses2 · 10/12/2021 12:38

Just by the test to get the code but don't take the test. No one checks up on the result.
