Am I really supposed to send DD in?

Dd1 (secondary school) has Covid. Dd2 (primary) hasn't. No Omicron information was given so I presume it wasn't there. DD2 goes to school on Monday, right? This just seems insane to me but is that what everyone is doing?

The guidance is to bring her in as normal but I would give dd2's school a call and see what approach they're taking. The Head at the primary school I work in is encouraging parents to keep children at home in your situation. I hope your dd1 is feeling ok.

I have allowed siblings to attend and this is school policy although I’m sure not a particularly welcome one.

I’ve had Covid and none of my children caught it then, one has it now and two don’t. If a negative child was kept off every time there was a positive case in the house it’s just too much time off on top of all the time off they’ve already had. Especially if they do then test positive further down the line and have to isolate themselves. I will test the siblings daily before school.

My child who does have Covid tested negative just a few days before testing positive so even the ones doing the twice weekly LFTs can be spreading it on the non testing days surely? It highlights the importance of the twice weekly LFTs but I know it’s not foolproof.

Phone the school and ask. DS tested positive and they said they would have her in if negative on LFTs all day but it was up to me if I wanted to keep her at home and the would support whatever decision I made. Chose to keep her at home and she tested positive 3 days later anyway, but it's V hard to isolate properly in our house.

We have covid in our household currently, we are all isolating even though we don't 'have' to. All DC staying home from school. I simply don't agree with household contacts not isolating. The school are very supportive and in agreement with my decision and are sending home work for the DC who are still currently well.

@FreeBritnee

Does anyone knows what happens if I test positive and DCs dont? Can I enter the playground masked up or do I just keep them home with me?
It is so upsetting that people are still asking stuff like this Sad If you test positive you stay home, you certainly don't walk into a school playground! Man do I feel for school staff just now....
Bobholll · 04/12/2021 23:01

@FreeBritnee - you can’t leave the car. But school said to drive her over & a friends parent or teacher met her out the car & walked her in.

School is a 4 minute drive max. 10 minute walk. If for one in trillion chance the car broke down on a school run, I’d have dropped DD and walked home wearing a mask. I actually have to walk past school to get to a priority test post box which I’m allowed to walk too so no real difference 🤷🏼‍♀️ As it happened, we obviously didn’t have a breakdown.

Bizarre rule.

I also think keeping her home is the right thing to do.
