I frustratingly can not book the booster but my carer DH can. How is this?

I was vaccinated as part of group 6 for the first and second vaccines. I have my own health conditions which put me in group 6 but I’m also and unpaid carer .

DH is also my own unpaid carer. DH has been able to book his booster , but I , as the one who is at higher risk am not eligible Confused .
I called 119 who told me to ask my GP for a letter to take to a vaccine site to confirm I’m eligible.

I called the (completely useless in normal times) GP practice who said they have absolutely nothing to do with the boosters and they can’t provide a letter . So I can’t book!

What is the likelihood if I go with DH for his booster that they may also vaccinate me?

Are you more than 6 months since your second jab yet? The interval period is shortly changing to 3 months, but not quite yet. Have you actually tried putting your details into the National NHS booking service?

BungleandGeorge · 03/12/2021 22:12

Are you young? I’d guess your GP records don’t show you as a carer or an eligible health condition. You’ll probably need to contact them. You can’t turn up unless you’ve actually been called, I’m not sure whether they’re onto group 6 yet.

IWannaGoDownton · 03/12/2021 22:19

I’m past the 6 month mark and I’m 39. The GP practice won’t amend anything on my records as they are not a part of the booster programme so won’t budge .

The website says they are only doing 40yrs and over, they are still working out the details of how it will be expanded. The priority groups are no longer being used so being group 6 is irrelevant, it's your age that matters. You'll be able to get yours once they move onto your age group.

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/12/2021 22:30

Everyone is being invited in order of need.

Donatella · 03/12/2021 22:35

Apologies, I've just checked and I was slightly wrong, people who are at high risk of complications are also eligible but it doesn't necessarily look like the same list as the original group 6. Have you checked if your condition is on the list?

julieca · 03/12/2021 22:38

Sorry OP as far as I know its group 4 ecv only and all others by age.

Wigeon · 03/12/2021 22:39

The booster programme is going in order of clinical need, not just age. So if the OP was in the “at risk” cohort (original cohort 6), then she should be able to book her booster even if she is under 40, and it’s more than 6 months since her 2nd jab (the website hasn’t yet implemented the 3 month gap recently announced).

See the JCVI advife back in September when the booster programme started, which said that from Sept this group is eligible:

“all those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19 (as set out in the green book), and adult carers“

Wigeon · 03/12/2021 22:41

OP, what happens when you put your details into the booking website and try to book?

Wigeon · 03/12/2021 22:46

@Donatella

There is no difference between the at risk definition in cohort 6 in phase 1, and the 16-49 year olds at risk of covid now eligible for a booster.

See page 15 and 24 of this doc here (the Green Book)

Bontanics · 03/12/2021 22:46

I'm in the same issue op. I was in the group 6 and I'm under 40yrs but can't book booster even through it'd been 6 months since my last jab. My docs can't help and the covid line only really has the same link to book people's test as what is publicly available on the gov website. Stuck waiting till the age group opens up really.

mynameiscalypso · 03/12/2021 22:47

Are you under a consultant? Mine wrote me a letter which I took with me to a walk in centre and they were happy to jab me there and then (I'm the same age).

Wigeon · 03/12/2021 22:47

@Bontanics - what happens when you put your details into the booking website?

Hobbes8 · 03/12/2021 22:48

It’s a complete fucking shit show is what it is. The government announced on Monday to the press that 18-39 year olds are eligible and the interval would drop to 3 months. But vaccinations are tightly managed and they haven’t yet changed the documentation so it’s not legally possible for the vaccine sites to administer the change

They basically created a backlog of thousands of people who are now eligible and have given us no way of sorting it.

Reported yesterday in the Daily Mail that website not being updated until the 13th
