Going to big event

I have a big work event to go to this evening - around 100-150 people attending, all inside.

Was fine about everything until new variant news came out. It’s just not something I am able to get out of and I’m so worried I’m going to end up positive next week because of it.
Double AZ vax and recently Pfizer boostered (around 4 weeks ago).

Would anyone else be worrying and trying to get out of it?

I went to a similar sized event last week and have been fine. I’d go.

Thanks @Daisy829 it’s silly really as before omicron hit the news I would have felt fine about it and now I don’t, even though I’m sure it was present in uk weeks before they found it!

I think it depends on your circumstances. I’ll admit I’ve been very anxious since the start of covid but after the hype of delta and now this, I can’t bring myself to get too concerned. If I had vulnerable people in my household I might feel differently.

As it is this evening you should be ok, if it was in a week or two I probably wouldn't as there will be probably a lot more cases and a chance of spoiling Christmas if you got it

I don't think anything has significantly changed since we heard about Omicron so this week is no more risky than it would have been two weeks ago - sounds like there is community transmission of Omicron but you're much, much more likely to pick up Delta if you're unlucky and catch covid at this event.

SpeckledFrogsLog · 03/12/2021 16:04

I think I'd be more worried about the change in the isolation rules. If you are contacted by test & trace as having been in contact with a case of Omicron, you need to isolate for 10 days regardless of your age or vaccination status!!

Could be very inconvenient!

OP, awful timing for you and I don't envy you. The only things you can do is a LFT to protect others, wear a mask when not eating and drinking in the hope it gives you some protect and distance as much as possible from others even if it's moving your chair back a bit.

By the way, just wondering if work have issued any guidance. Surely they have a duty of care to keep you all safe and don't want to risk people being off next week.

Forgot to mention I am CV - hence why I’ve had both jabs and booster already.

But I don’t even think vulnerability comes into play anymore as we’re expected to go into work and send kids to Covid packed schools. I’m young and healthy. Cv based on medication to lower immunity

There is zero evidence so far that Omicron is more deadly. In fact, so far, it seems it might be milder. Covid is a mild illness for most people anyway. You might feel pretty shit for a couple weeks but most people do not get seriously ill or die even if they are not vaccinated. My un-vaxxed friend had by far the mildest dose of covid when it went rough a few of us friends in October. I thought that was a bit unfair 😂 even if omicron evades the vaccines & you happen to catch it, you’ll most likely be completely fine.

Nothing had really changed since two weeks ago. Delta remains extremely dominated & will for a good while yet. If you were getting on with life with delta circulating as it was two weeks ago, then crack on.

Even if there is, let's say, 5000 cases of Omicron in the country already, and this is doubling every 4 days... Then the chances of there being someone in that room that has got it is very small. If it was a NYE Party or in January it would be more risky.
