Do DC's have to do a PCR

Quick question ,

I tested positive yesterday , DH also positive (both via from a lateral then a PCR)DD has just tested positive on a lateral flow test . DH and I both fairly poorly with it , DD dancing around without a care in the world !

She is only 7 and finds the swabs really traumatic , neither dh or I can leave the house to take her for a PCR test .

It is necessary to have her take a PCR ? Can we just take the lateral as the result and leave it at that ?

Obviously will notify school

In that situation I wouldn’t but would isolate with her for 10 days

dementedpixie · 01/12/2021 19:43

You could get a postal one for her

spudinmysock · 01/12/2021 19:45

@OnceuponaRainbow18
We are going nowhere anyway , DH and I both on day 8 of isolation

Only reason id say get a pcr is to have it logged. Otherwise if she gets a temperature/cough in say a months time and you have to test her, then it could well show positive still and she'd have to isolate again even though it would be highly unlikely she had Covid again.

Crunchymum · 01/12/2021 21:23

Without the positive PCR my school wouldn't accept the absence, and because of the positive LFT she'd be expected to take a PCR so close contacts could be notified etc.

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 01/12/2021 21:25

I wouldn’t retest her, just make her do 10 days isolation. But school may not authorise her absence without the PCR result, it also won’t go in her medical notes which may be an issue down the line were she to get long covid etc.

spudinmysock · 01/12/2021 21:31

I can't order a postal PCR test right now , it says it's for essential workers only .

What's the process when both parents are positive and probably not well enough to drive and I need to get her to a testing site ?

There will be zero volunteers to pick up a probable positive child and take them to a test centre and I wouldn't want to put that on anyone anyway .

I know I should know this but I'm in a bit of a spin Blush

I would, for future problems in terms of long covid or proving infection for vaccination/future positives (although this seems to be about to be removed)/ anything else they introduce over the next few months where proving recent infection could be beneficial.

Bellabelloo · 01/12/2021 21:41

I agree. Especially if covid passports came back or you're looking to travel, good to have it officially on record.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page that mentions essential workers and click continue as it says tests are available to the general public too. Then click to say you are confirming a positive LFT

I agree, get a postal test. The two I have had have been more like cotton buds and feel more comfy to use than the regular lft swabs. I hope you feel better asap x

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 01/12/2021 22:14

You are allowed to leave the house to get her a pcr. You go to a drive through site so you don’t have contact with anyone. Or get a postal test but you’d still need to leave the house to post it.

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 01/12/2021 22:18

You can legally leave the house to go to a test centre in this situation.

If your dc doesn't get a pcr it won't be logged and they wouldn't be exempt from testing for 90 days afterwards as a close contact.

Better to get it confirmed properly.

spudinmysock · 01/12/2021 22:21

@dementedpixie

Thank you , I have now ordered a postal test ,

It makes sense to have it recorded , my head is so foggy just now I feel like I can't think straight and I'm in a blind panic worrying about it all .

Thank you everyone Thanks

If she doesn't have symptoms you need to register the lateral flow test or her isolation will start from when she had the PCR if it's positive (sorry if you've done this already)

JanglyBeads · 01/12/2021 22:41

Hope you’re all ok OP

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 01/12/2021 22:55

No, I wouldn't do it. It was traumatic for my 5 year old and I won't make her go through it again. Would just get her to isolate with us.

PrivateHall · 01/12/2021 23:39

Sorry to hear you are so poorly op, I am glad you were able to get sorted with a postal test. All the best to you all.

Frazzled2207 · 02/12/2021 09:36

While the rules are the same for our school nobody actually asks to see pcr test result- that would be confidential medical info
