Anyone else already had notice of anything cancelled because of the new variant?
I got an email this morning that a carol concert performed by adults has been cancelled because of the new variant.

Works Xmas do is about to be cancelled, not officially been announced yet.

halloweenie13 · 01/12/2021 06:27

My graduation which was already delayed has been cancelled again. My friend who graduated in 2020 has had his delayed since having his 2021 msc delayed also

beguilingeyes · 01/12/2021 06:35

I have got a bunch of things coming up in the next couple of weeks, including a concert that was postponed from last Christmas! So I'm keeping everything crossed that nothing drastic happens for a while.

julieca · 01/12/2021 06:43

I don't have that many things booked. The concert wasn't a commercial affair, so more likely to be cancelled I guess.

Xmas work do cancelled, not particularly because of the new variant but because people are worried about catching covid and being in isolation on Xmas day - people really want to be with their wider families this year.

WeAreTheHeroes · 01/12/2021 06:48

I'm in a choir and we do a lot to minimise the risks. Most are double or triple jabbed. I can't see us cancelling the couple of things we have planned in the run up to Christmas. People are worried about the new variant, but we don't know enough about it yet and there's strong evidence that being vaccinated provides good protection - you might catch it, but you're less likely to be very ill with it. The Delta variant is the dominant one in the UK.

julieca · 01/12/2021 06:51

@slippersockgrey this concert was organised by volunteers. Maybe the concern is catching it and having to isolate over Christmas? I have several friends who are planning to stop socialising before Christmas so they can safely spend Christmas day with very elderly relatives.

My dds preschool nativity .. again! 😔

MissPeregrine · 01/12/2021 06:53

I’m not necessarily worried about catching it, think it’s inevitable, rather that it will mean a 10 day isolation, ruining Christmas plans.

MaggieFS · 01/12/2021 06:59

It's a big concern that close contacts of confirmed Omicron cases have to self isolate even if they are vaccinated. DC's carol concert is next week, so more than two weeks before Christmas and we'll all go if it still happens, but I think DH needs to rethink his work party on the 16th sadly. It's just not worth risking Christmas, is it. I know that's terrible for hospitality but perhaps others won't be as cautious (or just wouldn't bother to isolate if pinged).

I am supposed to be going out to a Christmas meal in a busy restaurant on the 23rd of December. Now just wondering if this is foolish?

We had notice than the school ice skating could go ahead as its outside.

And the one way system was reinstated within days of it disappearing...

MaggieFS · 01/12/2021 19:22

Nativity at nursery cancelled 😢

I would still have been happy to go given how much the kids mix and it was next week, so more than two weeks before Christmas.

TempsPerdu · 01/12/2021 19:35

Nursery nativity also not happening here. Although technically not cancelled; after filming a grainy, poor quality version for parents last year I think they just decided it wasn’t worth the hassle this year as risk of it being cancelled again was too high.

ThatParent · 01/12/2021 19:38

I'm hoping the carol concert will be cancelled. Also DD's upcoming (regional, indoor) sports tournament. A lot of other parents aren't happy about it going ahead.

The intensive care are over 80% full where we are, the big hospitals are full. In Austria, they're triaging Covid/op/cancer patients as to who has the best chance of survival.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 01/12/2021 19:42

DD's Christmas show (secondary school) will no longer be going ahead with an audience next week, they are filming it instead. She cried Sad

thedefinitionofmadness · 01/12/2021 19:44

Our company's HR consultants have sent round guidance suggesting works parties should be cancelled.

We run community programmes and we're going with outdoor options for things .......

DevonsFinest · 01/12/2021 19:55

Ooh I do hope our Christmas do is cancelled, I don't want to not go and be "that person" but I'd absolutely be uncomfortable at a function right now.

Scarby9 · 01/12/2021 19:59

The Christmas staff outing at work has been cancelled. It doesn't actually affect me as I had already decided it wasn't wise to go.

Katie517 · 01/12/2021 20:05

All our events are still going ahead and we will be going, I’m not worried about having to isolate as you don’t check into venues or anything anymore so I don’t know how anyone would know where I had been and none of my friends or family would give details to track and trace they would just inform me themselves and allow me to make my own assessment of whether I need to isolate. I also know a lot of people at work have blocked the T&T phone number and email address. We are locking down by stealth by the sounds of a lot of these responses, poor businesses that really needed a normal Christmas after last years fiasco!

Downtown36 · 01/12/2021 20:19

So frustrated and disappointed that events are being cancelled - school nativity, carols and Christmas fair.

Each and every single death tragic but they have stayed consistent. With boosters and additional measures being reintroduced I just don’t get it.

TempsPerdu · 01/12/2021 20:30

Masks also just reinstated at (2min, outdoor) nursery drop off and pick up. Absolute idiocy. Angry

Buzzinwithbez · 01/12/2021 20:35

Down town I agree. In England, hospitalisations are down a quarter on 4 weeks ago.

Case numbers are high but stable, no exponential spread.

Latest thinking seems to be that the vaccines are still working with o.
