My son is 5 in year one there is 3 classes

All of the year one teachers and TAs are all of with covid . Now 4 kids from my sons class are positive and 3 from the other two classes.

I kept my son home today to do a pcr as his friend is positive. I'm so scared to send him back knowing that the whole of year one is dropping like flies

Am I being silly keeping him home? He had covid in September. No symptoms wouldn't even no he had it.

If he has already had it recently and was fine why are you worrying?

Nodney · 30/11/2021 20:20

Personally I would keep him off until I had the results of the pcr. Then i would rethink. Maybe I am wrong but that's what i would do.

Bobholll · 30/11/2021 20:25

He’s literally just had it. What are you scared of? Was he really poorly or was it mild? If he caught it again (highly unlikely), would it be a problem? This is his education, don’t let your health anxiety ruin it for him.

Waiting for the PCR result first is reasonable.

Whatdoyawannado · 30/11/2021 20:26

I didn't think you were supposed to do PCRs within 90 days of a positive unless you have obvious symptoms?

jayde28 · 30/11/2021 20:26

Just to advise, he may still come up as positive as you shouldn't do another PCR test for 90 days after having Covid.

Ceecee30 · 30/11/2021 20:27

If he has already had it I wouldn't be panicking too much to be honest. If he had it in September I thought you wouldn't be able to test right now as it hasn't been 90 days??

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 30/11/2021 20:27

If he hadcovid in September you shouldn't be testing him within 90 days should you in case of a wrong result from that infection

Why are scared, it's extremely unlikely that anyone would have it twice in 2 months

mumof52468 · 30/11/2021 20:28

Thanks for your comments. He has had a cough and a cold plus close contact. He's already had a pcr after his positive one and it came back negative it was for an operation. So I no if this one comes back positive then it's a new infection. I'm worried as I have a baby at home with asthma. I also have bad asthma and my son who is 5 has autism and finds it hard to understand when someone is poorly.

If he hasn't had a positive test and has no symptoms I’d send him

Bobholll · 30/11/2021 20:39

I have reasonably moderate asthma. It’s troublesome. I’ve had covid twice & neither occasion caused any asthma issues.. I’m only one example but I was convinced I’d have a rough time but not at all.

Does your baby actually have an asthma diagnosis? It’s taken us nearly 5 years for DD to get that diagnosis despite numerous hospital trips & inhalers being needed. Docs have constantly told us she was too young to be diagnosed 🤷🏼‍♀️

mumof52468 · 30/11/2021 20:42

@Bobholll they told me it's asthma but said they won't diagnose untill 5. I've had asthma since a baby to. I'm glad you was ok with covid I'm sorry you had it twice. I think I'm stressing over nothing but I hate the thought of my children being poorly it frightens me. X

You could keep him off if you wanted to. But, as he has autism, would he struggle being off school? That would be more of a deciding factor for me.

I've not even read through the thread but I would keep him off. Absolutely. One hundred percent.

Our school have said they would prefer children to stay off pending PCR result

Remmy123 · 30/11/2021 20:50

Our year had an out break - my child never got it but half did. It took two weeks and it was over and done with. Now back to normal.
